hejammy Posted 30 August 2017 Posted 30 August 2017 You would have thought he would learn from the Mahrez situation, surely mahrez would have had a lot of stick from the rest of the team and it doesn't look like anyone is willing to match Leicesters asking price so he'll stay here. Same might happen to Drinky, the thing is Leicester do not need to sell. If a massive bid came in they'd talk to drinky anyways, transfer request or not. If mahrez couldn't force a move through what makes him think the club would crumble to his demands?
LCFCABC Posted 30 August 2017 Posted 30 August 2017 Shame he felt he had to hand in a transfer request to force the move. Pay at the asking price or he stays still stands for me
Merging Cultures Posted 30 August 2017 Posted 30 August 2017 Get in Grzegorz Krychowiak and let DD go for 40m. RM has been doing well recently, but I'd let him go for 60m in the current market, and get in Townsend.

RODNEY FERNIO Posted 30 August 2017 Posted 30 August 2017 Blimey tomorrow evening is going to be interesting to say the least. Why do clubs leave everything to the last minute ? For example why were Chelsea so sure that the Ox was joining them ... now they find themselves short of players in loads of positions and less than two days left until the window closes.

I am not saying there are people ready to buy him, but in this market given the current prices players are going for 60m isn't inconceivable... if someone wanted him. When he is playing well, he is worth more to us than 35m.
EGBFitness Posted 30 August 2017 Posted 30 August 2017 If it's true, dirty ****er handing in a transfer request to force the move. Atleast it'll be a while till he comes back here with Chelsea
StriderHiryu Posted 30 August 2017 Posted 30 August 2017 I don't believe the transfer request story myself. I could believe he would want to go but given that Chelsea didn't express an interest until very recently and that the club must mean a lot to him, I just don't think he would act in that way. He may have told the club he would like to leave, but I don't think he would go that far. If he did, I think h would have done a Mahrez and issued a public statement about it. I personally think we will play hard ball over this (and we should) and not budge on our valuation. Chelsea have had all summer to make a bid if they wanted to. Selling a player now is the worst possible thing you can do, even if a player is unhappy with the decision. We could live without Drinky, but he's a proven player for and important to the team. Selling him now also sends the wrong message to the rest of the team. I would expect over the next few seasons to see our title winning legends leave or retire, but we shouldn't just cash in for the sake of it. We want to be as competitive as possible ourselves!

I wish this had been sorted earlier; we could have potentially got Zouma, Chalobah, Loftus-Cheek, Abraham etc as part of a deal.

Simi Posted 30 August 2017 Posted 30 August 2017 As people have said, we hold the cards. Match our valuation or the player does not go anywhere. Gone are the days we need to bend over and sell and be happy for the money. Especially because there is almost zero chance we will be able to identify and get a deal over the line for a replacement.
Sublime_Coatsworth Posted 30 August 2017 Posted 30 August 2017 We need to be careful how we handle this. They'll probably let him go now he's handed in an official transfer request. However with less than 40 hours left before the window closes they don't want to spook any other players into doing the same, so I think they'll still drag their feet over this until late tomorrow
Sambiasso Posted 30 August 2017 Posted 30 August 2017 Drinky wanted to go all summer if a club came in for him, he kept it quiet where Mahrez didn't. The reason we signed Ibbora imo. The fact is the club isn't moving forward, another season another side step is undoubtedly why him and others want to leave. Come 11pm tomorrow we could be 6 players lighter and have Andross Townsend and an overpriced CB to show for it.

If we haven't got a list of viable options ready to go then we are an absolute shambles. Can we get one done in time? Who knows but clubs will know we have money to spend and little time to find a replacement.
Cadno'r Cymoedd Posted 30 August 2017 Posted 30 August 2017 Drinkwater strikes me as a sulky type when things don't go as he wants. May be wrong but was evidence of that last season. Having said that, £35-40 million is a reasonable fee. Pay up Chelsea or Foxtrot Oscar. They are desperate and can pay or Danny stays sulking with us for now. Tough.

SheppyFox Posted 30 August 2017 Posted 30 August 2017 He was crap last year, still don't know what all the fuss is about.
