Drinkwater

How can anyone want us to sell him. Not only is he a club legend but he is also a great footballer and part of our identity. Also 40m is literally fuch all in todays market.

I think some fans judgement has been clouded by his poor season last year, due to injury. In 2014/15 Danny Simpson was on par with Robbie Neilson. The following season he was a key player for us.

Drinkwater can & will return to form. That's why Chelsea want him.

Such a shame some fans are happy to let such an important cog in our system go so freely.

Danny Drinkwater epitomises Leicester City as much as Vardy or Wes Morgan. Yes it's possible we can upgrade him with a player from overseas.

But seeing Danny in a different shirt, will not feel right. He is one of us. That's not even just a sentimental thing either - He can still be a great player for us and is in his prime.

If he does go, I'm just glad we've been able to finally witness a classy central midfielder pull the strings for all these years, instead of having to put up with the likes of Stephen Hughes and Junior Lewis.

How can anybody reject £40 million for him. We sold Kante for £32 million who is twice the player Drinkwater is. £40 million for a guy who's quite frankly been terrible for six months, you'd snap Chelsea's hand off, that's a "I'll drive him there myself" kinda deal.

On current form he should be 4th choice. There's always been two sides to Drinkwater, the impressive side where he is able to control the midfield or the negative side, where he goes into a shell and only plays backward and sideways passes.

Also he has always been that type of player who has one good season then backs it up with a bad one. When we first signed him he didn't look anything special, suddenly came good and won Player of the Year in our Championship winning season, then turned bad again in our first season back in the Prem, then turned good again alongside Kante, then had a shit six months last season.

Danny has been a vital part of our side but he has also been an inconsistent part of our side. Some have classed him as irreplaceable which is quite frankly utterly ridiculous. He didn't do enough last season, and those creative stats when he is meant to be the creative heartbeat of our central midfield is quite frankly a disgrace.

Losing the likes of Schmeichel, Mahrez and Vardy would be a big loss and would get fans worried, losing Drinkwater however really doesn't bother me.

Piss poor if he's handed that in as late as that, bemusing as well as he didn't particularly need to did he?

At least Mahrez gave the club plenty of time

TBH This move has to happen to save Drinky's career. The 'thigh injury' will only be cured if he dons the Chelsea kit. It must be something to do with the healing properties of the Nike brand. It's the same for Coutinho. He realises that his only chance to recover from his debilitating back injury is to wear the Barca Nike kit. He's already getting temporary relief playing for Brazil in their Nike kit! It's so unfortunate that these guys are having to leave the clubs they love because of these injuries. #prayfordanny

This must be where Arsenal f*#ked up, why on earth did they change to Puma... not that it did us any harm

I'd rather take that Imbula off Stoke

You really wouldn't if you asked Stoke fans what they think of his performances for them.

didn't have drinky down as one of them guys tbh, but fair enough. if he wants to leave see ya later. cheers for everything.

heres to you, danny

I would not take this transfer request to serious. More agent crap to try and force it.

Who would have been available at 11pm to hand it to. Why would the story be released so late.

Just let him go, £30-40 million is a perfectly fair price for a player who's been poor for about six months. He didn't create enough last season, Amartey created one less chance than him last season...yes Amartey.

Definitely needs to be replaced but he wouldn't be a big loss.

Ha! KF's real feelings toward Drinkwater come out again.

I think he'd be a major loss.

Less than 24hours to go in the transfer market looks like we are going to have to panic buy as always.

And a panic loan.... Enter Molly Waggie

Chelsea have also bid 25m for Barkley so I can see that being the reason for any transfer request from DD. Barkley will cost less as Everton want rid and IMO he is a better player. Could be an awkward situation come Friday. 2 potentially unhappy players in the squad.

We sold Kante for £32m because we had to - I believe his release clause was £20m for Champions League clubs, which PSG activated. Chelsea then offered us more - he was off either way

Anyone else reported it? Because Sky are the Indy Kalia of sports journalism!

I don't reckon he has and this is his agent putting out stories to push through a move. Our position wouldn't change though, stump up the cash and a club can have him. If not, he stays. He only signed a 5 contract a year ago and so upper hand is with the club not the player

Maybe this is a way of him sacrificing some dollar to close the gap between the offer and the required fee.

True but he could just do that behind the scenes and include his bonus in the fee. Making it public is upping the ante big style because now we all know and the club will not want to risk keeping a potentially unpopular player. I guess seeing riyad playing and not being slaughtered won't help his cause on this one.

Sanctimonious twaddle. You don't know him and have no idea what kind of person he is. He has made mistakes and apologised for them. If we were all judged solely by our worst moments, none of us would come out looking very good.

His commitment and work rate on the pitch should be an inspiration for any youngster hoping to play at a decent level.

I don't expect a consensus on here. The rush to defend him at the time was as embarrassing as it was ignorant. The guy is about as dislikeable as footballers come. Take your blue specs off and you would see most football fans in agreement.

Dress it up all you want but someone capable of racially abusing people should be no inspiration to young people, whatever other positive characteristics they may have.

In practical terms, doesn't handing in a transfer request disentitle Drinkwater to whatever he has in the way of a loyalty bonus? No idea how big this might have been but perhaps he thinks we might lower our price slightly if we don't have to pay him a couple of million directly for selling him before the end of his contract...

Posted

Unlike Riyad, I can imagine Drinkwater throwing a paddy if he doesn't get a move. Shakespeare/NP always said he was a difficult character to manage.

Might as well sell.

Have Chelsea run out of money or something ? By all means bargain for best value but this looks more and more like the worst sort of attempted financial bullying - pay the asking price you dicks
