A mate of mine is a Saints fan, and I asked him earlier about his pereception of Puel now the dust has settled. I think you’ll find it’s worryingly reflective our recent experiences - player rifts, playing players out of position, constant changes, starting well and then going tits up...

“The impression was not impressed at all! Lots of outsiders said how we finished 8th and got to a cup final however he got lucky. We started the season fairly well  however when I look back, much of that rolled on from the previous season. Whilst we finished 8th, we were only 4 points off 17th. I got the impression Puel didn’t really know what he was doing, constantly chopping and changing the team, playing players out of position and such dull, negative tactics. There were rifts in the dressing room as well. Our season last year completely petered out like yours did and we didn’t score in any of our last 5 home games. I was pleased when he went. Our big problem is that we somehow managed to replace him with someone even worse!”

It seems most on here want to replace him. But there is the danger we appoint a Pellegrino and it gets worse... what is the bigger gamble?

The next game will be interesting. The writing is on the wall it seems, but if he doesn’t get a reaction and we don’t show up again that is irrefutable evidence something is seriously wrong.

You must have heard the phrase "You're only as good as your last game"

To explain, the culmination of their reigns are thus;

- one team looked ****ing good, on the up.

-the other looked ****ing shit, dead and buried.

One progressed, the other regressed.

So presumably if we win 2-0 next weekend then you'll be shouting that there's no problem with Puel? Or maybe it's actually about more than just one game and looking at what they've achieved as a whole?

I was firmly in the puel in camp before today, and it hasn't been easy to stay there.

Today was diabolical, but my follow up point was quite clear.

Palace and Leicester have almost identical records as you say, but one started shit and have been getting better, the other immediately looked good and got worse game by game.

I don't think it matters what anyone thinks now, I think puel is as good as gone regardless of how I feel about it, but honestly, look at the league table, alongside performances and form, anybody think palace would swap places with us right now?

We will both finish precisely nowhere, but I'm sure they are looking forward to next season a damn sight more than we are.

Perhaps the club should give out voting forms to supporters, like Everton did regarding Allardyce, and rate aspects of him and team management overall.

Sorry. I disagree. Not all of us unanimously.

This isn’t going to be popular  lol  but I still think that the owners should hold off from sacking him.

Yes, today was awful. Yes, we were already pretty uninspiring when we had 11 men, away to a side still needing to fight when we are already safe. But we were only utterly, bone-crunchingly awful towards the end, with 10 men, by which point the game was long gone.  A late (and late season) surrender like the Spurs game last year.

What if, from our position of safety, we could write this off as a bad day at the office?

What if we could accept that Puel’s selection and our playing style has indeed been ropey over recent months, but also acknowledge that it ain’t really Puel’s team yet?

What if we could recognise that mid table in the Premier League was dreamland for us, just a few short years ago, and was quite optimistic - see the “finishing 8th” thread - when Puel first arrived?

What if Puel could stay, and then clear out the dressing room in the Summer, and actually forge his own team?

What if we could accept that any incoming manager would face exactly the same problems, if they are not allowed to clear out the old guard and forge their own team and style?

What if Leicester City didn’t have a managerial revolving door, which will only lead us one way?

I suspect I may be entirely on my own, but madly, and with wild optimism, and despite the pelters and criticisms  I will doubtless receive in here for saying this, I say :

Puel in.

:scarf:

I think I better go and barricade myself in the Safehouse....

Sorry but I have to disagree, this call for him to go isn’t based off 1 extremely bad game. This is based on a decline in performances and results, baffling decisions and an inability to stand up for what is right in the club.

He has to go, it would be a total disaster to give him money in the summer... we are sleep walking into a relegation season!!

Yeah, or not.

Some decisions are better made by those in the know, not the general public.

Just look at Brexit.

He's playing players out of position due to the injuries, lack of fitting players (10 and FB) and Albrighton as a RB was worth a try. We will never know what worth his system since he'll never get to bring his own players.

The next game will be under Appleton I think, if they to sack him then it has to be now. No point giving him more games.

I would never trust supporters to decide over the fate of a manager.

Bloody hell @Vacamion that’s s lot of ‘what ifs’

Has Puel really shown enough for you to allow you to grant him those what ifs?

Is there any evidence that Puel’s desired style with appropriate players would work for us?

Do you not think a completely clean slate that a new manager brings might be better positioned to bring about those what ifs?

That’s a fair point considering your blind confidence in Puel.

Albrighton at RB against Zaha away from home... foolish.

Its like he didn’t bother reading the opposition scouting report.

Palace are actually a great example of what Puel has managed to achieve.

Hodgson and Puel have very similar records since taking over struggling sides. Palace were more of a mess than we were in the short term - Hodgson went back to basics and they’ve secured their survival with 2 games to go.

Puel is trying to change the team’s style and yet has achieved similar results to Hodgson’s “back to basics” approach. Puel has a (marginally) better squad but it’s not so much better that we should be lauding Hodgson for keeping Palace up and lambasting Puel for having us 9th. Since Puel took over Hodgson’s Palace have taken exactly the same number of points as we have.

Should we be hoping for better? Obviously. Realistically are we going to do better? I don’t know, I hope so but we are near enough where we should be, as are Palace. One manager is hailed as a genius, the other as a calamity.

Disagree with the marginally more talented squad! Our squad is too talented to have this sh run

It's called patience and it is still better than wanting him out before he even managed one game.

It has had similar runs under the previous two managers as well.

Puel might be underperforming, out of his depth or whatever else is thrown at him but unfortunately 3 or 4 wins in 15-18 games is not an individual issue.

Dont Bolt the door yet!!  I am diving in after you.

After the lack of commitment, attitude, and effort from our players,Seen over the last 10-12 games,

with the odd good 30-40minutes Here or there,I aint giving Them the easy cop out.

Fk any managers tactics, this group aint earning their pay,and their way Into out hearts.

They not Puel, have shown contept towards the fans, with pathetic individual football performances.

No matter,if he only speaks chinese...PL top players should still perform under dodgy poor management.

So Like you,I am still giving him the benifit of the doubt.....

And for fk sake get stronger and More bolts on these doors, and does this safehouse have a get

Out Tunnel,or trapdoor.  We are the 2 brave last of the foxicans!!!

Or Shatterhand and Winnetou...

Well it was a little more insightful than those commenting now after the horse has bolted.

Blasted for a rightful opinion. Think my first posts even got removed because I wasn’t towing the line.

Apologies for being correct and not following the crowd.

Absolute cobblers.he DROPPED  Dragovic for Morgan, he picks the floundering Chillwell ahead of Fuchs,

he believes Albrighton can defend with only  Mahrez in front of him and he takes our best performer off at half

time oh and he can't gat a tune out of Silva.

Wake up!!
