So my understanding then is that the deal is a loan here without a view to permanent, but with us able to match any offer in the summer for him.

I personally think this makes the whole thing a bit pointless, unless Silva truly is desperate to get out of here and we see it as a chance to temporarily reduce the wage bill.

Monaco's desperation is what's landed us this because they need Silva more than we do Tielemans, as ridiculous as that sounds.

But with no option for a permanent in the summer I can't help but feel we've blown the chance to get the better of this deal. Monaco's desperation surely gives us the leverage to say we want the view to permanent in the summer.

This whole option of us matching any offer in the summer.... what does that even mean? Can we not just do that anyway?

I think in terms of our team it's a gamble worth taking, but it's only going to bring us short-term gain unless he's both brilliant and we spend an absurd amount in the summer to get it permanent. We're not getting him for £20million this summer if he's any good. It'll be double that.

The whole thing just seems a bit pointless to me.

id imagine under FFP rules you can’t agree a permanent deal now, even if it’s not tonbe signed until the summer as then his transfer fee would have to come out of this years budget. I believe that’s the mess PSG got in with Mbappe...

Look at us loaning our unwanted players to Monaco, it wasn't long ago we were loaning them to Cheltenham and Hereford.

so we're basically getting him ready for a summer move to spurs...

Nothing wrong with being a stunt cock. Its the best job really. You actually 'win' something not act as though you have.

Not to be daft, but would this bloke be playing in a three with us? Or competing with Barnes/Maddison/Gray for the spot behind Vardy?

whos going to drop out at spurs so he can play fulltime, he would be stuck on the bench there and become another drinkwater.

Being daft on FT is perfectly acceptable. In fact, most FT members think it is compulsory.

He can play defense, so have to believe he can play in a 2 or a 3 for us. Would be a massive help in the middle at least in terms of getting the ball fwd, though if Claude was unhappy with Silva and Iborra losing possession, he's gonna blow a gasket with Tielemans.

It might be unpopular, but I wouldn't mind seeing him replace Ndidi for a run of games, that might well be our best side, Mendy, Tiel and Hamza can all pass reasonably well and hopefully playing with Tiel will get guys going fwd w the ball more quickly. Would be great energy with Tiel and Hamza. I know people are down on Mendy at the moment, but Ndidi has been poor lately as well, and brings less offensively than Mendy and Hamza, and we need a bit of experience in MF.

Speaking of unpopular, would be curious in the 4231 to see Vardy sit and let Gray and Barnes work with Tiel and Maddison and our FBs. That is much closer to what we need on the field, Vardy plays too far from the ball, he sort of leaves us playing a man down when we are trying to crack a well-defended box due to his absence in the build-up.

I don't personally see the point in a loan move. For me as a club we've progressed to a point where we shouldn't be developing other teams players but rather our own prospect. For me as a club leicester have very little to gain from such loans as two scenarios can occur, not play/play badly or play well. In the first scenario the loan is a waste of money and in the second the player moves to a barcelona or man utd.

What if both teams want to keep the player they've loaned? Then he's not "not our player" any more. And we buy him for cheap or nothing because Silva is important to them. I imagine that is the hope.

If Silva goes and does well it means we can get rid of him easier for starters. Don't just think of it from the Tielmans angle.

You know, not all loan deals are alike. This is not a situation where we’re taking a youngster from a power club to give them some playing time (like Benkovic and Barnes to Celtic and West Brom), and we know we’ll have to give him back,  We’re taking a guy whose club basically wants to move him out, with tha idea of keeping him permanently.

I would love to see some formal buy option, sure.  But just because it’s not being reported in the press doesn’t mean it’s not part of the understanding between the clubs.  If we want to keep Tielemans and they want to keep Silva, of course we’re going to get the chance to make the deal permanent.

Besides all that, this shows that the club recognizes what their glaring need is. If Tielemans doesn’t prove to be the answer they’ve shown their hand - they’ll buy somebody in the summer to fulfil the same role in the side.

People appear to be assuming he's gonna get games and start for us...

I would imagine he will need to get up to PL fitness and into the Puel game plan - I also wonder if Puel would want to be putting him directly in a gift shop window. He may well be bled in very slowly.

It's also interesting to note that Jardim doesn't think he works in a midfield 4 - I think its likely Puel will play him in both a 2 and a 3 to get the ball moving quicker - something we lack and something at Monaco he appeared to fail to do but many said the team were pretty slow and lacked willing runners which resulted in Teilemans losing the ball all the time... one thing he will get here are players breaking at pace to pass the ball to in a magically dramatic manner.

I am however concerned about this transfer if there is no first option to buy - I feel we'll be showcasing a player we can't keep or replace.

I see zero problems with this loan swap. Silva gets no minutes and does not even make the bench.

Tielemans may, which is straight away an improvement. Interesting to note how often he is stated as losing the bal;, and it seems to be as you say Swan that he is trying the balls but there are no runners.

Tight timescales to get him productive, but the other option is yet more moaning about Silva not playing?

(insert “Rudkin! This deal should have a 50p buyout in the summer” complaints )

It’s unimaginable that the club - and Puel - would be pursuing this if Tielemans wasn’t going to start regularly.  We have little to lose and everything to gain, and a limited amount of time in which to decide if we want to try and cement this permanently.   There may be a game or two where Tielmans starts on the bench until he learns the system, but he’ll be starting pretty much every game after that if he’s healthy.  It’s a lock.

Oh if he's good in training I can see him starting, sure - but I'm not sure it'll be for 2/3 games yet.

Not seen him play really so can’t comment on his ability. For me I’m not sure why we are signing him? We don’t desperately need points to stay up or will we realistically finish in Europa league spot. A decent opportunity to chuck in some of the under23s with no pressure on them to judge whether they are or will ever be good enough. Hopefully though if he signs he turns out to be class and we sign him permanently in the summer and becomes first name on the team sheet

Puel needs players that can play his style of football or I doubt he'll make the summer.

Can the moaners about this loan deal honestly say they'd rather watch Ndidi and Mendy for the next 14 games, because that's what this comes down to ultimately doesnt it? For the short term sanity, this is surely a good thing.
