Wilfred Ndidi

Recommended Posts

Wilf was visited by the Nigeria manager last week, looks like he could be back soon, cameo against Brighton?

"Ndidi has been integral, committed and passionate member of the Super Eagles. The good news is that his second scan came out very good so he start training with his club and possibly play in their next game."

Here’s the interesting dilemma (for lack of a better word) we face when Wilf is back fit. Do we go back to a 2 CB partnership with the wing backs in a back four - sacrificing that third CB for him? Are we good enough to do this with him in the side - possibly?

In theory it’s not a massive tactical departure from the 3 CBS as Wilf would drop back to cover the WBs going forward and creating our width, this also allows us to keep the two up top we need - and allows us to have Tielemans and Soumare as more box to box options.

It could potentially be a natural step forward for this side - but we also do seem to do okay with 3 CBS - although it has shown Soyuncu this season to be slightly less comfortable and we’ve still shipped a few more goals than we like.

What we thinking? 🦊

I agree I quite like the idea of a diamond, with Ndidi splitting the 2 CB’s when we are in possession allowing the wing backs to bomb on, and we can then congest the space in the middle when we are defending. On paper at least…

However, may be out for another couple of weeks yet and then will likely be eased back in/ rotated with Soumaré etc. And then he’s got AFCON along with Kelechi and Amartey so may not be a conundrum we have to face particularly in the immediate future.

Yeah agreed mate, something perhaps we should look as at a refresh heading into Feb/March once AFCON is done, until then hopefully we can solidify that defence a bit with the 3 at the back. We also potentially have players like KDH to consider who could do the Soumare role with a bit more exposure to top level football, he’s a secret ace in our pocket that we haven’t quite worked out yet. Also Barnes could potentially step into a complete forward role as he’s got the ability to do such. Looking at the bigger picture it’s great to have these decisions to make 😂

Man Utd are crying out for him tbh, surely makes so much sense but wouldn’t be surprised if they went for another attacking player and just completely ignore their glaringly obvious problems at CM

I think they’ll go for Kessie, as he’s more attainable at a cheaper price with his current contract situation.

Think this is least we have missed him in the midfield; but god we miss him defending corners

Goals against arsenal and Brentford both come from where Wilf occupies space when we defend corners

really underrated part of his game, but he’s absolutely class at defending set pieces aerially

We’ve been shit at set pieces in the entirety of Brendan’s reign, Ndidi isn’t gonna solve the problem

Reckon if you look at stats it is actually when Wilf is missing the real problem arises; might be wrong but remember last year when Wilf was out we started leaking from corners

52 million?

they forgot to add the King power premium, and the January premium and the fact he’s one of the best in the world in that position premium.

it would have to be something astronomical for us to accept any offer in January.

he’ll probably have an agreement that will see him leave at the end of the season.

If he wanted to go there, you couldn’t really stand In His way, you’d want the most money possible.

problem is he’s pretty irreplaceable. Though I believe we already know he might be off.

Real Madrid prob see Leicester like they do Ajax – easy club to poach players from for reasonable money, like when Roma tried to pay 35m for Mahrez – Madrid wont pay what we want, fact!

Real Madrid can't afford what we would want.
