This. It dredges up bad memories of the Wilf and Mendy pairing under Claude Puel...:ill:

I think it did help in that Mendy would actually track back and defend somewhat, with Soumare so far it has left Wilf very exposed at times

He's one of the best in the world at one half of the game. Its keeping that and finding the other half at the same time that's the problem. Where do we find the Fofana of defensive midfielders?

Won't be easy, Camara at Marseille is a bit of a beast in the making and contract is up this summer.

Pairing them together made both of them to play worse than each of them could separately - it's the opposite of Synergy!

I’m all for giving Hamza a runout. It’s not because ndidi is a bad player, he obviously is just bang out of form and maybe is a little complacent at the moment.

Give him the Villa game off and I’m sure he’ll come back as a beast against Napoli.

Wilf is at his best as a purely destructive player with tackles and intercepts, breaking up and disrupting play. We need that and he is usually excellent at it. His skill set is not good enough as a play maker especially his passing so he needs the likes of Youri around him. People got carried away comparing him with Kante. His passing wasn't the greatest either when with us in the title season but that has improved and Drinkwater had an inspired season as a playmaker off him.

The other advantage Kante had, and still has, is that he puts in the effort of two men and has exceptional spatial awareness so he knows where to be to snuff out danger. Wilf is more languid and doesn't have that spatial sense as much (who does?). But he can be highly effective in breaking up play at his best and protecting the defence. Sadly he has lost his touch at the moment and is lacking Youri around him.

Clearly not yet back to his best but we all know how good he can be. On the plus side it makes me think we’ll be ok this year. It’s such a shame we’ve been ravaged by injuries. If Ndidi, Tielemans and Maddison play and are all at their peak we still have one of the best midfields ones the league. Add to that Justin, Fofana and Ricardo and we still have a very good team. First half yesterday was dire but we looked like the team would win it in the second half.

Clearly lost his mojo at the moment, just seems half arsed at the moment.  Perhaps he wants a different challenge and has been here too long? I hope it is just a confidence thing and he'll come good again, but we need him back to somewhere near his best if we are to climb the table.

Would be tempted to put a cheeky bid in, in Jan for Camara. With Mendy & Hamza possibly on the way out at some point we need a proper CDM cover for Wilf, especially if Soumaré is considered more of an 8.

Wilf is an amazing player but of late some of his mistakes are just not in his character the Jackie Chan Karate kick on the Saints player made me take a sharp intake of breath bit like sucking on a lemon the acidity thinking Sh1t he’s given away another penalty, just wondering where this headless chicken moments are coming from he’s normally mr cool calm & collect in defence ?

On balance, I thought it was more Chuck Norris than Chan.

You know , young Wes could certainly do a more than adequate job filling in for Wilf when he is fit. He is quick, strong and has a good pass in him. If we are playing a back four he is a better candidate than Soyuncu.

It's not just last night. Please name a good game he has had this season - there aren't any. That doesn't mean he hasn't ever been good, and doesn't mean he won't ever be good again, but he certainly isn't at the moment.

He's not really doing anything different is he? Pretty poor on the ball and good at tackling and winning the ball back.

Giving him more of the ball will make him look a worse player, I don't think there's much more to it than that. He's at his peak best when he's behind two players who will play further up the pitch.

That scissor kick in the box last night was genuinely one of the stupidest things I’ve ever seen on a football pitch. It’s so brain dead you can not excuse it, you’d be sent off in Sunday league for something like that! He seems to have completely lost his head since he came back from injury.

Think his new player trait "Perform the Can-Can in the box" makes him look worse than he is. He still seems as busy and I agree that if he has to play more, it will make him more of a liability, at least initially.

He's been pushing higher up the pitch this season, which is the main thing I see different. If he loses out on a challenge when he's further up, they're at our back line in no time.

It's the one thing that in my opinion will probably stop a bigger club nabbing him from us, especially ones that rely on a possession based game. I do think he would fit in well for Klopps Liverpool, he could just sit in front of the back 2 and basically help mop up any counter attacks.

He's a superb ball winning midfielder and can be a collossus in the middle. Having him on the pitch, in theory, should release a couple of other players to attack, because he's that good at breaking up counter attacks. He can basically do the job of two people in defensive situations.

Main weaknesses are that he can sometimes switch off momentarily and he's not very tidy on the ball.

I know there is pressure for everyone to be involved in all phases of play,  but it’s a big ask and I feel it fails to bring out the best of Wilf. However, maybe it’s just we are undermined from our poor defensive situation this year :dunno:

He's certainly very n'different lately.

Last nights performance was the worse one he's had in a Leicester shirt.

Who for 🤣

I honestly don’t know but he’s that bad at the minute surely someone like Mendy or hamza should be given a start. Ndidi needs dropping so he knows he not guaranteed games and needs to buck his ideas up.
