talking_goldfish Posted 11 September 2020 Posted 11 September 2020 If a player is told by their team that if X sum is met then they can go with their blessings then that is what should happen. Win win for both parties - player gets a move to a league he'd like to play in and the club gets wad loads of cash to spend on replacements. If then (as we are led to believe) the team is made an offer of X for that player which they don't accept then the player has every right to be disgruntled. That is not to say that trying to force a move in this way should be supported, however if we are to accept his own account then he has tried to speak to his coach / 'general manager' who has refused point blank to discuss it then one could argue that he doesn't have many other avenues to explore. There are always going to be fans that are then not happy with the player who only a few months prior (for some unknown reason) had said that he is 100% going to stay at ASSE to further his development, but if the player has tried to move the previous year the team may well believe the time is right to cut their losses and reinvest in the squad. The statement itself did seem to mention some interesting points and speaks of an intelligent young individual but we cannot kid ourselves to the fact that this could well happen to us a few years down the line. In fact a player with this much confidence may be inclined to insert a minimum fee release clause into his contract for a team competing in the Champions League. That all being said, he sounds like a right player so GERRIMIIIIIIIIIIIN!

The state of the abuse Mahrez gets, even though Riyad gave us years, gave us a title win, was forced to stay window after window being promised he could leave in the next one. This kid is 19 and already a senior squad member at a top flight football club in one of the world's wealthiest countries. No matter where he goes, this kid is going to make more money for himself and his family in his life than any of us ever will. And you're cooing over him because he trots out some bullshit excuse for his greed? Oh, isn't he so sweet, he wants to buy mum a house. He'll get to buy every member of his family a house before he's done and half of ours will still be living in a council bungalow. He's acting like an absolute twat and a diva and not for a "once in a lifetime opportunity!" but for a pretty standard, regulation football transfer that he'll have plenty more opportunities for in his life. He's clearly not shit at football, it'll be some other big European club next summer if he keeps it up. You've all just been seduced by some kid pretending his dream is to play for Leicester. He's just tapped nicely at our vanity. Sorry Finnegan but this is a load of shite. One bad tackle and he could be ****ed, career over, sounds extreme but look at players like Matty James and Dan Amartey who never returned to the level they were at previously. He’s a 19 year old lad being offered thousands more than his current contract and he’s come from nothing, he’s in a position where he can change not just his immediate families life but we are talking generational wealth. ASSE told him he could leave if their valuation was met after the season was over, we have met that valuation and now they are trying to move the goal posts. Puel has come out and tried to bully the lad into staying and the lad is fighting his corner. He hasn’t said his dream is to play for Leicester, he’s said his dream is to play in the Premier League. We have a shortage of centre backs and he has the opportunity to play regularly in the Premier League alongside Soyuncu. Are we a stepping stone? Yes probably, however these types of players need a club like us to move on to the pure elite level of the likes of Barcelona, Real Madrid, Manchester United etc. It’s mutually beneficial for both of us. The difference with Riyad is now he’s left he can’t stop slagging us off despite the fact we gave him an opportunity when no one else would when he was playing in the French second division. Puel’s a ****, he’s got piss poor man management and he’s trying to prevent this lad’s career from progressing by going back on the financial agreement that was set after the French cup final was finished. 18

Greed and money might talk but players throwing their toys out of the pram to try and force transfers at the age of 19 still isn't exactly the average move is it? There's a reason guys like Ravell Morrison cultivate the reputation they do. His clubs stance!?! He's 19, has only just broken in to the first team and his club don't want to immediately sell him, while he's under contract, for a fee they consider to be lower than his worth!? WTH is wrong with that? You called him a twat. Love the Nuance's to your arguement. He had offers previous years too. Lots of our player's that have been recently sold signed good deals but moved on anyway. The way of the world. Mahrez wasn't a twat could have handled it better but I get his reasons. It seems like as it's been reported Puel doesn't want this to happen at all, while Leicester always say a player won't go, we know this won't happen and we're trying too maximise return. Maybe the player feels with this and physical abuse his family received he had no choice. Anyway I'm sure we'll continue to disagree on this point! As long as St Ettiene get a good deal and Leicester have done everything above board we may get a good player for a few years then we'll rinse the likes of United or Chelsea again Edited 11 September 2020 by Lesta Legend 2

No we wouldn't as its Man City we were dealing with, who seldom pay more than £60-65m for anyone. Mahrez's actions were hurtful but I don't particularly hold any grudges. He was a genius here and wanted to leave after lighting the place up for most of his time here. 1

Also as we are yet to ever sell more than 1 high value asset per season we are nothing like Southampton or the other clubs that failed with a model of buying low and selling high. 3

How are we going to progress if this is our model. The line of progression is far from a straight line. It's almost certain we will never be top of the football food chain and just like every other club that isn't top of the food chain we will lose our best players every now and again. We just have to keep buying top young talent, develop them and if we do sell make a big profit and keep repeating the process and in time it gets easier to keep your better players or at least for a season longer. There was a time not so long a go when there were 100 clubs in the world who had the right to come here and pick our best players, now there are about a dozen or so clubs in the world who have the pulling power on us. You say "how are we going to progress if this is our model", we're already progressing. 18 5

How are we going to progress if this is our model. What a stupid comment. This is exactly what our model is as it is the only way we can compete financially with the big clubs. If we had never sold Kante, Mahrez, Maguire, Drinkwater, we would have never had the money to sign the likes of Ricardo, Maddison, Tielemans etc. We sell one player every year for a ridiculous price and reinvest the money to improve the squad. The difference between us and Southampton is they sold several players in one go and never reinvested the money wisely enough to kick on which is why we battle it out in the top 6 and for large parts of last season they were in the relegation zone. You say how are we going to progress if this is our model, well that's exactly what we have done. Winning the league was an anomaly and will most likely never happen again. Vichais plan was to get us into the champions league and we only just missed out on that last season on the final day, which was extremely disappointing given we had a huge points gap earlier in the season but shows that "little leicester" can compete with the bigger clubs who have far bigger budgets for both transfers and wages. If you think we can keep hold of all our players and keep signing top players ever year then you are delusional. FFP puts pay to that and now we are in a position where we have no idea what our owners finances look like.
Max Power Posted 11 September 2020 Posted 11 September 2020 I stopped caring about players forcing a move a long time ago. As long as we get a fair price I don’t care - all it means is the player is held is slightly less regard. Doesn’t mean I didn’t love Mahrez as a footballer, just means I wouldn’t really want to be his mate. It’s clear this has dragged on for ages and Puel categorically saying he isn’t going to be sold and then blanking the player has pushed him to do this interview - which raises some fair points.
