st albans fox Posted 10 September 2020 Share Posted 10 September 2020 The more I think about this public statement by a 19 y o to force a move, the more I think the ASSE board could well decide they cannot now sell him as the precedent is terrible. For him to go public on this, he must have been frustrated for some time and it could be that we have already moved on for fear that we will not get this across the line.

They need the money and there is no turning back now with how public he has gone. It seems like the transfer has dragged on for a few weeks who knows if it is because we are being tight or they are playing hardball. After this though, there is no way Fofana plays for ASSE again. This is the exact set of circumstances in which I used to lump on the player staying at current club, back when the market was still being offered. I’m feeling very uneasy about both the chances of the deal being done, as well as the player’s character.

Yeah not sure Rudkin and co would be too happy about it either. Look we all know that tapping up is rife and negotiations with club, players and agents all happen simultaneously but we are well known for being tight lipped about our business and I would be pretty confident this has not been put about with the blessing of lcfc but just the player trying to force things along now he has agreed personal terms.

He’s refused to speak to the player about it and tried to force the clubs hand by going public the little ****. He’s bitter and I hope ASSE get rid of him after his stunt today. Oh okay, that’s a bit shit of him. You can understand he wouldn’t want to lose a young promising CB but you can’t get in the way of a player achieving his own personal goals like that, he’s got to move eventually to progress. Popular Post brucey Posted 10 September 2020 Popular Post Share Posted 10 September 2020 Full interview in the Mercury https://www.leicestermercury.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/wesley-fofana-pleads-claude-puel-4505590.amp?__twitter_impression=true In an interview published by L’Equipe on Thursday night, the teenage centre-back said his heart is set on a move to the King Power Stadium, where there is a five-year contract on the table, and hopes his current manager, Claude Puel, will allow to complete a transfer. L’Equipe also report that City have offered €29m (£26.75m) for the 19-year-old. Fofana has said he “would be crazy to say no to Leicester” where he could sign a contract that could “change my life”, adding that he was breaking his silence after hearing Puel declare during his press conference earlier on Thursday that the player would not be leaving Saint-Etienne. “I’ve received a lot of offers,” Fofana told L’Equipe. “It's normal to have them checked with my agents. They didn't agree to me talking. But what just happened broke something in me. My decision is made: I accept an offer. Yes (to Leicester). I've always dreamed of playing in England. “Already, last summer, I had thought about (leaving). But as the club did not agree with Salzburg, I stayed, with 100 per cent focus on the Greens. This winter too. This time, I can't refuse. “Where I come from, the northern districts of Marseille and a not well-off family, that's not possible. I'd be crazy to say no to Leicester. This contract can change my life. I have to protect my family by keeping them safe. The sporting and financial aspects being combined, I have to say yes. “I am determined and mentally ready to change my life. By putting in that sum, Leicester is proving that they really want me. It's not like I want to leave for a club where the number of central defenders is immense. It is a real sports project.” So far, Saint-Etienne and Puel are standing firm. Before Puel spoke to the press to say Fofana would not be leaving, the defender went to see him to try to persuade him. Fofana said: “I went to see the coach yesterday morning to tell him what happened, that I am not well, and that I want to leave. I tried, but couldn't discuss my issues with him. No big deal. I manage on my own. I'm used to it. As he was closed to discussion, we talked about the athlete, not about my private life. “(Puel said) that I am 100 per cent part of the project and that it is out of the question for me to leave during this transfer window. “He (Puel) knows me by heart and he gave me his trust directly. It is to say thank you that I extended, in April (until 2024). During Wednesday's training, he saw that I was no longer there, that I see myself better elsewhere. I listen to it and I understand it. But he too must do the same. I hope he will open his heart and listen to me.” Fofana said he does not want to upset the club where he has come through the ranks, but believes that with the fee being offered, everyone can be satisfied by the deal. He also feels that this may be his only opportunity to move to England, with Brexit potentially affecting the freedom of movement of EU citizens, and has been influenced by his former team-mate William Saliba’s switch to Arsenal. He said: “Sainte is my club. I have them in my heart and I will respect them until the end. I owe them that. But I'm entering my sixth year, I'm not a mercenary who signed yesterday. “I refused to go abroad at the end of my youth contract and my agents fought for me to sign pro here, where only Julien Sable believed in me. I even extended to protect the club. “I’ve traveled for miles by bus, I won the Gambardella (French youth tournament) with my friends so I think I have the right to embrace the club crest but also to say: it's my job and I want to do it elsewhere. “I don't want a clash and I don't hope to go into crazy stuff... Actually, I wouldn't ask to leave if I knew that was messing the club up. My wish is that everyone is happy. And we can all be. “I am worth €30m! Crazy, isn't it? This is my price set by the club after the final of the Coupe de France. When the money is there, you have to take it. It would be even crazier to say no. If I stay and don't have a quality season, we'll all be sorry. And it will be too late. “Who can guarantee that I will be worth €40m or €50m (in a year’s time)? Who was sold at this price without playing the Champions League and without being international? No one. All the clubs are weakened by the health crisis. Moreover, in a year it will be almost impossible for a player like me to go to England because of Brexit. “Saliba serves as an example to me. William did very well to sign directly for Arsenal last summer. Given his difficult season afterwards, he would no longer have the same odds today. The same can happen to me. “So please think carefully about this offer and put yourself in my shoes. Especially the coach. He will make the decision. He explained to me that he is not only the coach, he is the general manager. If I understood correctly, it is the boss. And as such, he has to think in the interests of the club and not that of the coach, right?” 1

brucey Posted 10 September 2020 Share Posted 10 September 2020 Feom the interview, he is saying that Puel has the final decision on whether the transfer happens, and this is his very public way of begging Puel to let him go, as Puel refused to discuss it in person earlier in the day. Guest SO1 Posted 10 September 2020 Share Posted 10 September 2020 Its an excellent offer. If that's the hill Puel and his club want to die on then so be it. If I'm Fofana I go to training tomorrow and talk to Puel man to man. If Puel keeps going then you down tools and slow down. Up to Fofana to stick to his guns. That brexit stuff is real. We wait. Till we don't and move on.
