Benkovic could maybe be described as a bust, but that deal was an opportunistic one. Soyuncu was always the intended Maguire replacement, Benkovic was thought to be good value and we were surprised Dinamo Zagreb wanted to sell him. Besides he's looked good for Celtic and Bristol City and both of those clubs would take him. He could also still come good. If we are willing to spend that money on a 19 year old defender, then I've got the feeling we think he's the dog's bollocks. The scout report on him earlier in the thread came across very positively indeed. I think he can go grow into an upgraded version of Evans... have the same tackling and aerial ability, but also very fast and good on the ball. It's got all the hallmarks of a classic Leicester signing where we sell him in 4 years for 3-4 times what we brought him for. The only thing that puzzles me is why we aren't nearly as good at signing attacking players. Well maybe that is a bit unfair given a certain J Vardy and R Mahrez turned out to be half decent. But Slimani, Perez, Ghezzal, possibly even Nacho. All these guys are OK, but none of them have had the same impact as our defensive or even midfield players. There is of course still time to go and get Stengs / Edouard / Trincao . And to be fair we were in for Trincao before Barcelona signed him and were beaten to Bergwijn by Spurs. Don’t think this is one for an immediate starring role but this signing has a bit of an exciting feel and once again the club are looking at long term stability and future proofing. Still a lot of money for a 19 yr old but that is the market and like everyone else we just have to try and get the best deals we can. I was / am well up for the Tarkowski move but if this one is being done for around £25m then it probs makes more sense spending that on a 19 year with massive potential than spend £40m on a 28 year old.
