But ‘may have’ is as pointless an argument as the one addressed in my first post. We can only deal with what we have in front of us, which is a bodged response as a result of BLATANT corruption.

We don't know if there really has been corruption - we will need a thorough investigation to see if ministers benefited personally, or if it was panicked response using people they believed would deliver quickly.  It doesn't look great though, and this is why these procurement controls are there in the first place.

Yeah, but if the new strain or whatever really is this bad surely they'd keep the borders closed? It's not like it's suddenly less deadly a day later.

Could be the second point, politics at play!

The border hasn't been re-opend yet. travel is allowed one way only right now ie into UK. freight can still be transported as long as it is unaccompanied. The situation is very fluid right now and I suspect there will be limited commercial travel based upon negative covid tests but ordinanry tourist travel will probably be off the cards for some time and quite right too.

Come on man. We could always ask Dido Harding, or her husband 'anti-corruption champion' John Penrose.

Lets be honest, whoever was in charge would be getting criticism and lots of it. Either we're locking down too much or not enough, Boris problem is he has attempted to keep everyone happy whilst managing to keep noone happy.

Boris' problem is that he has tried to be popular, as did Blair, Cameron etc,  and that doesn't work.

the irony that being an island meant we should have been able to control the spread of the virus better than on the continent yet we've ended up as 'plague island', banned from travelling anywhere !

There are reports that the same strain has been found in Italy, Denmark and Australia now. It could be far more widespread than we know, which wouldn’t be surprising if it is true that this was first spotted in September.

Corbyn isn't even a labour mp anymore lol for years tories have used him as a shield and thats partly why we are in this mess. They have basically offered no fresh ideas, no leadership, no vision for the country and gotten away with it by saying "oh well at least we aren't that guy'.

Corbyn was however leader when we last had a choice at the ballot box and so him not being a labour MP now is irrelevant.  There are many who would have preferred an electable alternative, especially from a remain perspective, but this was not an option.

So Bojo the Clown is going to do a presser later after actually turning up for Cobr. I wonder what fresh hell he is going to inflict on us...

I shit you not its straight after Worzel Gummidge! (well when he decides to turn up anyway).

I am absolutely convinced now that this whole year is an elaborate satire written by Chris Morris. It must be surely...

So apparently this new strain of COVID that's been uncovered was known to the government in September... Does this strain have anything to do with the Minks thing in Denmark or is that completely different? Could they be linked?

Wouldn't it be just wonderful if he admitted he wasn't up to it and was tending his resignation?

To be honest he may as well, everyone hates him anyway so he may as well just drift off into the sunset and let someone else worry about it lol obviously he will add coward to his list of negative characteristics. Wont happen though.

Surely there would be leaks by now if it was everyone going into tier 4?

It doesn't take too much delving to find out that the bloke fired for breaking lockdown measures - Neil Ferguson formerly of Sage - the man responsible for the 500000 and 4000 wild projections, has now found himself a seat on Nervtag.

The current projection of 70% has now been adjusted by 20% less than 24 hrs later by Ferguson himself.  And as yet, neither figure has been been open to further scientific review or scrutiny either.

Unbelievable.

I think is position is untenable already, it’s only the virus that is keeping him in post, the last you need is a PM change half way through a pandemic, I imagine he will either be ousted or leave the position once this is eventually over.

That Robert Peston just asks pointless stupid questions every time there's one of these briefings, can't he just piss off:frusty:

Although he's ITV's political editor, he's also one of the countries' most accomplished economic journalists. He's well within his right to put the Prime Minister on the spot about Brexit during a live press conference to try and get at least half-coherent answer from him.

Of course Boris couldn't manage it.

In fact just showed his utter contempt when he turned to Schapps and smirked.
