Didn't Burnley say tarkowski was £50m ?

He has a release clause at that value it seems.  Their position seems to be we are not selling, over to you if you want to pay the clause.  For them its a lof of money if the player says he won;t sign a new deal with less than 2 years to run.

That’s the buyout in his contract - I doubt they expect to get that in the current climate

**The actual buy-out clause in his contract is not relevant to us**

The clause only applies to clubs in the North-West

Burnley are probably still using it as a barometer for how much they want but we probably feel we can get him for less

It's less exciting, but its the far safer option. I know it's a lot of money, but I do think we need to spend big here to make sure we get in a good quality defender to take the pressure off Jonny and Cags, otherwise all the other hard work we have done with getting in international quality players could be completely in vain.

You don't need to buy every player thinking of sell on value. You get 4 to 5 years of this fella being a good starting centre back, then that in itself brings its own value.

kinda true.  We do need a little balance between youth and experience.

Four or five seasons in football is a long time.  If we are much closer to/or belong to the top 4 by that time we will be in a different space, with more pulling power and more financial resources.

Will also be nice to call St Etienne's bluff.   As others have said if Wes Jr is that good why are bigger and richer clubs not making some noise.

Obvious that we’re gonna do a Benkovic/Soy double deal for Tarkowski and Fofana. 👀

You never know - the fact they are (reportedly) asking for the loan back deal could make it more likely. Presumably if we agreed on that basis they would be more open to spreading out the payments as well.

I feel like Tarkowski would be another Evans. IE a signing that comes in and hits the ground running right away, improving us now and adding to squad depth. If we got him for less than half of what we paid for Maguire, that would be decent business.

28 years old that will have no sell on value doesn’t seem like the kind of move you’d see us make nowadays.... hopefully it is a smokescreen for big Wes 🙏🏻

I hope so too.  A very very expensive short term fix.  No sell on value and not the quickest.  Would much prefer little Wes.

Odd - we don’t usually publicise stuff and if JP is reporting it then it’s with the club’s approval .....

so why would we stick this into the public domain. ???

this is a tweet that little wes won’t be ‘liking’!

So.... either Burnley or St Etienne stand to get many pounds.  Then, the other won't.  Or we offer more for one....

Who will blink first?  (Or next)

This is a deal that makes a lot of sense. He’s proven premier league quality. Knows the league well and can step in and out of the 11 without any issue.

Our defence was amongst the best in the league last year until they all got injured/suspended. If it’s £40m then just pay it. He guarantees us another quality CB to add to the two we already have. This will enable us to rotate a CB once the European games start!
