If Tarkowski had a 2.5 year contract left, you would be in pole position negotiating Value terms.

 

As his contract runs out June 2022,  his value and with his age taken in account will drop like a stone every decreasing month, I think any deal around £35 million is the going rate, and you would be wise to accept

 
Another big problem also for you is he wants to leave, and when you have a unhappy player the best thing is to let him go, we had the same problem with Mahrez

Just pay £40m for Fofana. Fofana will be worth £60m+ in a few years whereas Tarkowski will be worth nothing.

Tarkowski + Fofana for £30mill + add ons both. I advocated a striker being priority after winger but with Ndidi out and even 1 potential CB injury then we need both in luie of Evans potentially leaving next summer too.

Reading between the lines of what Rodgers has said, I think there WILL be another signing after we get a CB in but I think it will be a LB, winger or a #8..... 

 

Leaning more towards thinking itll be a LB or #8.

Don't think we will pay £40 million but maybe £30-35 + add ons. This is a huge amount of money but at least he is a known quantity whilst Fofana at £30 million plus seems a huge gamble IMO. I understand the arguments around resale values but Tarkowksi has an excellent injury record and if we get 5 seasons out of him I still think he is a good buy. He could slot straight into a back 3 and should not need easing in.

I would be more than happy with this.

Feels to me like we'd be going for our 4th choice, which seems like it's panic buying unfortunately. It's like saying 'We don't really want him, but he'll have to do, even though he costs more than our 1st, 2nd and 3rd choices' 🤷‍♂️

Completely agree. No one will complain about a few million pounds more  for Fofana when he gets sold for a top 5 record fee for a defender in a few years. Trust the scouts.
