Brighton are no mugs. They played Man Utd off the park but lost and played well against Liverpool. They're decent and capable of turning it on and picking us off if we're not at the races.

I expect the best way to sort these out would be to let them have the ball and spring them on the counter. Potter will know that's where we can be dangerous but does he know how to play another way?

Of these I believe Ricky is the most essential - when teams park a bus he can go around them - the defenders don't know if he is cutting in or going tot the line....  he keeps them guessing and can create goals from either .  I hope he is back soon.

The cavalry sure has taken a while to arrive. Let's hope some of the fallen are featuring soon, because otherwise we will run out of steam over xmas. At least Wilf looks good, which will help us protect Papy a bit, although I wouldn't start Wilf til Everton myself.

We are going to struggle to predict selections for the next month, but we desperately need Ricky and Timo to start showing up for match day, even if it's just the odd 30 minutes here or there.

I would still like Ndidi to be Eased in....either start, then 45-60 minutes, or come in on 60-70 mins..

Wouldnt Surprise me if we dont  see most of the injured players until New year...

Castagne...hopefully eased in before Manutd...Christmas- fixture

From Brendan’s presser today, if Timmy doesn’t play midweek against Everton, he will almost likely play next weekend versus Spurs

Hopefully Brendan recognises the positivity of a back 4 with Ndidi playing. Yes we have been moderately successful with 5 at the back when Mendy plays but there seems to be an air of comfortability with 4 defenders when Ndidi plays.

Kasper

Justin - Fofana - Evans - Thomas

Ndidi

Tielemans - Maddison

Under - Vardy - Barnes

I know Brighton are much stronger opposition than AEK, but there's a lot of attacking intent in that side. Brighton are much more organised and players like Gross, March, Trossard and any of their strikers (Maupay, Welbeck, Connolly) will need to be watched but we do have better quality than them on paper anyway. They seem to do well in games yet not get the results to show for it.

Many say Maddison and Tielemans doesn't/won't work but with how Tielemans is playing in very good form, hopefully it can bring out some good play with Maddison. If he is injured, then Praet or even Perez can play that role just behind Vardy.

Under & Barnes showed enough for me on Thursday that they could play and dominate the attacking third in most games. With a player like Vardy in front of them it could be quite profitable. Vardy will offer much more movement than Iheanacho which they'll be happy to see in front of them.

I just don’t see Barnes and under playing 90 mins thurs night and then staring on Sunday.

every chance that wilf could start ..

brighton could have both basouma and white in their midfield so wilf would be a much better option than papy

Had the same sneaky suspicion when both were left in for the entire 90 mins in such a one-sided game.

If you look at his team selection since the last international break very few players play more than twice in a 3 game period.
Brighton play with wing backs and will struggle if we use two wingers and two full backs in a 442 or 433 with wide forwards.
As Barnes and Under had 0 minutes against Sheff Utd I think that was calculated and they will both suit this game more and will both get 60 minutes minimum.

Kasper

Justin

Evans

Fofana

Thomas

Ndidi

Tielemans

Maddison

Under

Vardy

Barnes

Our pace advantage with Barnes and Vardy is going to be negated by Lamptey if he plays as he's quicker than both.  But although he's fast IMO he's not the best defender I've seen and someone like Under would roast him all day.  We may have to be a bit original in our line up if we're going to get the best out of our strikers.

Brighton would be higher in the league if they could finish.  They're not converting their fair share of chances and I hope that continues.  But we have to be prepared for a team that's more competent than their league position suggests.

This will not be a pushover for sure. Brighton always keep possession well and create chances but also have a lot of tall players who will no doubt be dangerous on set pieces against our much smaller team.

Brendan will need to rotate the team cleverly to get through the next week. Assume we'll see the old 541 in place for Tottenham away next Sunday but was hoping we'd go 433 for the 2 home games before then. The problem is that he left both Barnes and Cengo on for the whole game v AEK when he could easily have hooked them at 60 mins as the game was already won. There now has to be a real doubt that they'll also be able to play from the start v both Everton and Brighton. So I suspect that he'll match Brighton up with a 352 (same team as v Sheff U) and go 4141 v Everton (same team as v AEK but with Kasper and Vardy back). If he does there'll clearly be a lot of unhappy folk on here at 6.15pm on Sunday!lol

I love Lamptey and think he'll be brilliant but if there's one weakness of his it's his clumsiness and tackling, sometimes a bit late.

Thomas will have his hands full if Lamptey does play as he does attack well.

Can’t wait to watch him and Castagne run riot, think it will really take us to that next level when we have those two back (providing they get back to fitness and form fairly quickly).

Justin has to keep his place though... he's been absolutely outstanding!

Has he? He’s been admirably consistent, done a decent stand-in job and served the team well (and appears to be improving)... but ‘absolutely outstanding’ is pushing it. Give me a fully fit Ricardo or Castagne any day.

Oh god, 5 at the back again then. Time to show a bit more ambition and guile I think. Manchester United were a poor outfit when they played Brighton and themselves were trying to counterattack with no joy. I think the movement we showed against AEK would give them plenty of problems. Every team deserves respect but they're not 5th from bottom for no good reason. We really have to stop approaching games as if we were playing Bayern Munich or Liverpool every week.

the Lampty kid gives me goosebumps every time he gets the ball and turns to attack. Whoever marks him has a job and half to do. I think we've got this if Brendan plays his cards right and the boys turn up to play like they did against the Greeks with high intensity and gusto. Can't have another display like we did against fulham!

Exactly. We need to keep attacking players like Lamptey busy, not a cumbersome slow build up back 5 that allows him to do his best work. Whilst I entirely agree with those that point out that a back 5 has the potential to be an attacking formation, that's not the way we have been employing it. Perhaps if we had Ricardo and Castagne it would be a different matter but we haven't. For me our Europa team team and approach this week gives us the best opportunity against these.
