Mattock’s goal was brilliant. He played for England at all youth levels didn’t he? I was convinced he’d play for the full team.

I live in Somerset.  I used to watch some Yeovil home games.  Until Leicester went to Huish Park as the away team.  They were safe to watch as a lower league alternative.  Unfortunately, one game made them rivals.

What a job Pearson did though. That squad battered league one then finished in the championship play offs. Unreal.

I agree with the OP that actually isn’t a bad side. Certainly at that level.

 

I remember having some discussion on a forum with a bunch of Forest fans who were quite insistent that they’d got the better end of the deal by getting Hobbs and letting us have Wes Morgan. Well, that aged well.

Let's be fair that side is too good for League 1. It's no wonder we stormed it looking back.

 

What a season it was though. We won the title, ticked off a load of new grounds and went on to give the Championship a better crack the following season as we had for the previous few years.

 

I was gutted to see us drop out of that select group to never have played in the third tier but it was a blessing in disguise really and we've benefited in the long run.

A bit of a shame we had so many home draws towards the end, we should've gone well past 100 points.

There are plenty of "biggish" clubs who go down with players who are "too good for League One" but fanny about there for several years - Leeds, Forest, Ipswich, Sunderland etc.

Let's never downplay that season - Pearson got them by the scruff and set us on a fantastic journey.

Absolutely gutted when we were relegated to the 3rd tier for the first time but it was a cracking season and set us up for the next 12 years. It's been some 12 years.

Big can of signing Michael Morrison from non league. He has gone on to have a decent career in the Championship.
