Ainsley Maitland-Niles - Going to WBA

I've literally only warmed to this because it will mean we don't get Chalobah but he isn't anything to hey excited about. Am extra body though I suppose

I'd rather AMN than Chalobah but Arsenal have got zero reason to send him here unless we're obliged to buy him and if we actually spend real money on signing this kid permanently it'll be a massive step back for our recruitment and yet more proof that we're shit at finding attackers.

He'd be a fine non-committal loan for cover though, especially given his versatility.

Edit: For the record, given that he's looking to impress Southgate, it'd be a terrible move for him though given he'd almost certainly be a benchwarmer.

we obviously are tightening the purse strings just like everyone else in the league (not sure Liverpool really want to be buying a CB from Preston but they are) its been tough.

We were never going to sign a Striker in January. No club would sell a striker that is in form and if they werent inform we wouldnt want him anyway.

Yes every club is looking after there money because of what’s going on at the minute, not because every club has a new training ground! I just hope it doesn’t become costly in terms of league position because finishing 7th would look very silly now.

Despair at this thread.

Who'd have wanted Albrighton? Couldn't get into a poor Villa squad. Huth? Ageing and can't get into Stoke's 11. Evans? Relegated with West Brom, why would we want him here?

Some people never learn.

Will AMN work out? Maybe, maybe not. But his not getting into another side has little bearing on whether he will fulfill his purpose here.

Good point in fairness.

Only if we have an option to buy, hate the idea of improving an Arsenal player then sending him back.

I'm perfectly fine with it if he helps us hang on top 4.

If he comes here then it’s to secure his place in the England squad. I’m not sure why he’s getting such a luke warm response on here?

Did Rodgers actually say he was confident of signing an "Attacking" player or was that Stringer putting words into his mouth?

Can AMN be described as attacking? Looks from Transfermarkt that he mainly plays RB/RWB but can also play CDM? Scored 1 goal for Arsenal.

Obviously I'd take him if its a straight choice between him & Chalobah.

finishing 7th wouldn't look silly at all. If we finish 7th it is what it is and it would give us a platform to build again.

Look at the end of the day we could at the weekend be back to full strength (bar Praet) with a new player in the mix to its a great position to be in and instead of last season where our players were falling like flies we actually have competition all over the pitch.

Since when was this guy considered an attacking player. He has played CM and RB/LB. So are we expecting both AMN and an attacking player today?

Only if he actually plays.

From Ornstein:

Quote

If Maitland-Niles leaves on a temporary basis, his parent club are said to want him to be deployed at full-back

Just what we need.

To clarify, AMN wants to be used as a midfielder.

On thing a lot of people on FT are forgetting about is the Brendan affect. This kid is young and has the physical attributes to become a top footballer. He just needs an elite manager who can add the technical parts to his game and he will improve sevenfold. Name me a player in our squad who hasn’t improved under BR? I can only think of 2.

Agreed. Maybe he thinks he is better than he actually is.

I think it’s down to the fact he’s a ‘utility player’. Good ones are rare. James Milner is probably the best example. Most of them are meh

Thing is, I've got no problem with a player wanting to pursue his dream of playing in X position. But then go and earn it, drop through the leagues if you have to and take a paycut, find a club that'll play you there and work at it, prove people wrong.

I like him, Arsenal fans speak highly of him too. Young/Hungry and doesn't want to sit around till his contract is up, coughs.

Extra support in what’s going to be a hectic last few months of the season. All for this one, personally.

I agree. We're still in the FA cup, Europa League and Premier League and he is so versatile so he's the perfect squad player to have.

He was a starter for them not too long ago and people were talking about putting him in the England squad. This is a deal we need to be all over.

He's appeared in both the Europa League & FA Cup for Arsenal so I assume he's cup tied for both?
