Maddison is on record as saying that he is disappointed when he looked at the stats and saw that we were bottom of the table for corners\set pieces converted, given the balls he plays in. Commentators continually say during matches that it is a mystery why we are so poor at corners when we have quality like Maddison taking them. We hadn't scored directly from a corner all season, and Bredan was even changing up the corner taking situation by making us take more creative corners, e.g. short or worked on the training ground corners, over the last few matches.

Maddison gets injured, we put Albrighton on corners, and score a winning goal.

Should Maddison return to corners when he is fit, or should we keep Sharky (Kevin) on them, and leave Maddison to the direct free kicks?

Albrighton is probably the best of the 3, not just because of the goal against Brighton but because in general he's the best and most consistent crosser in the team. However, long term I feel like it's an opportunity for someone else to take the corners, as it's not always about crossing but sometimes more imaginative routines. Really Maddison should be the one to take them, as the number 10, 7 or 11 usually takes them because those players should naturally be higher up the pitch meaning it's not such an issue on the counter attack.

I'd personally like to see either Ricardo or Castagne take a few as both I reckon could be good, Castagne in recent games has had some brilliant deliveries and he's also played some nice short passes across the season too. The issue is that having either one take corners could be damaging on the counter attack as both players have exceptional stamina and engines and you don't want them stuck up the pitch if we turn the ball over.

The answer is for Maddison to improve at them, or perhaps give them over to our new number 7 who I assume we will sign in the summer. Maybe Barnes could have a shot at them too, but he's developed quite the killer instinct and I'd prefer him in the box!

Likewise, I’d say Albrighton. The problem is when everyone is fit, he is not guaranteed to be on the field.

I think all three players have a different style, and throw in some short corner routines, it could keep opposition on their toes if we rotate it around a bit.

Maddison's delivery was so good when he first joined but it's not even like it's bad now; it's utterly pathetic. Barely beats the first man. He's got the ability to do it but maybe he should just start by concentrating on getting it to the back post, even if that mean it goes over everyone. At least you're giving yourself a chance.

I'm not that great at football but it's the one thing I could guarantee I'd do better (and I'm sure plenty others on here could too). Really isn't that hard if you have reasonable technique.

Short answer, no he shouldn't

Albrighton should keep the role now as the man in possession. I actuality think that Maddison has the potential to be the best set piece specialist at the club (and really should be with his ability), but needs to go away and work on it. He's had ample opportunity this season and has failed to deliver.

I agree with the above, however, that we should vary the kicker and the technique sometimes. Madison's best corners have actually been those that have been worked short.

I would prefer to at least have one right-footed and one left-footed option in the regular group, since inswingers are more effective as a rule.  But Maddison has been so bad on corners this season that it's dubious whether he should ever take them.

Lets not pretend that putting Albrighton on corners is the answer to our woes, if the keeper didnt flap at the ball theres every chance we wouldnt have scored. All 3 of the players listed have shown they can put in a good corner. Equally they have all had game this season where they have seemingly been aiming for the first defenders head such has been the regularity of it happening.

The far bigger problem is the general size of our team and ability to attack balls in the air. Other than Ndidi and whichever centre backs are playing (none of who are exactly Elliott or huth in the strength and height department) we dont have anyone powerful in the air. This is of course backed up by our almost as bad defending of corners.

There was a definite run of games last season when Evans or Soyuncu were presented with 1 good chance from a corner a game and it was always put wide or straight at the keeper so I'm not convinced the goal rate would go up even if we found their heads more often. I think a horribly poor record from corners is just something we're gonna have to accept with this current Leicester team.

In an ideal world, Albrighton wouldn't be on the pitch.

If he is, he should probably take them.

Our takers probably need to stop being scapegoated though. I've watched almost all of our corner takers this season put in balls that looked dangerous and nobody got anywhere near them. Even the goal against Brighton was complete accident, some shit defending and some incredible reactions from Amartey. It wasn't planned and the keeper ****ed it up.

There's more to being good at set pieces than only the delivery. I feel our taller players get away without criticism far too easily. There's the same nonsense repeated every time Evans, Soyuncu, Fofana, Ndidi and Co go forward that somehow we should be dangerous because there's players 6ft or up going in to the box.

Being a good defender doesn't magically make you good at attacking crosses at the other end and from what I can see, ours are all basically shit. Huth was the last player we had I can remember actually looking half decent attacking a ball, maybe Maguire (though his end product is over rated.) Cags is terrible, a few times he's gotten in decent positions and then utterly butchered a finish. Fofana tends to just get under the ball and leap straight up at it. Evans is fvcking terrible, I can't remember the last time he even got close.

None of them really look like they know how to move, how to get to the ball or what to do when there.

Albrighton when he's on the pitch, but Maddison's corners have been far better this year than people react (Last year and the very start of this season they were awful). But he hit a spell of games where he was constantly putting 1-2 really good deliveries in and there was no centre back attacking. Evans never looks a threat from set pieces. Fofana could be in time.

Wondering if Maddison’s hip has been a problem with his corners.

I thought this, he almost takes them like free kicks and really twist his hips .

On a side note I was looking at the stats from the late 90s and our central denfenders where get into double figures between them. I'd imagine a good few where from corners .:(
