For the rumoured pittance we are being offered for him, I am swaying to actually keep him as a 4th choice winger...

Someone slap me quick!

There can't be a deal close to being agreed, let alone done, if he's starting tonight - right?

You could have said the same about Maguire 2 years ago. Played just about every friendly (which was probably about 2) and then suddenly disappeared from the squad and 2 days later was gone.

There's certainly not much we can take from these pre season games so far, albeit only 1 and half so far. But the team selections for each half of each game are giving nothing away as to who will be in the Premier squad and who won't be. The fact that Ghezzal is in means nothing, he's here for now, it allows Brendan to look at different tactics and formations, utilise him while we're paying him, sod him off if or when a decent offer comes in

I just mean in the thread a couple hours ago somebody posted some twitter "ITK" saying it was a "done deal".  If it's really a "done deal", he wouldn't be playing for us.  So, it may be very close and probably is - but there's no way it's "done"

It was even a little close, then he wouldn't be playing. The fact that he is says that there is no deal even close, let alone done

Good.

I would genuinely rather keep him and play him in the u23s than be bent over by Besiktas.

....I know how you feel!!!

There is however his wage to be paid, his loyalty bonus to factor in. If you say £2.8m in wages and the same again in Loyalty Bonus then their is an out lay of £5.6m less £1.5m in incoming transfer fee equates to  (£2.8m + £2.8m - £1.5m = £4.1m) outlay.

If we sell:

Loyalty Bonus: £2.8m -

Wages:            £0.00

Transfer Fee   £1.5M

                     --------------

                      £1.3m

                    ----------------

The total cost to us would be £1.3m (should we sell) or if we keep till his contract expired, then the total cost to us would be £4.1m.

nb.

The wages has been stated at £2.8m and loyalty Bonus is a rough estimate. In both options it is in our interest to sell him, irrespective of the actual value of his Loyalty bonus.

Besiktas wont pay more than 2.5 - 3 M euros for sure. So either we keep him and pay 4.1 per year or we will get some transfer fee and buy a better right winger

Twitter "ITK's" are a dime a dozen.  Right up there with football pundits.

Yes, but those figures are peanuts.  Besiktas and anyone else for that matter, needs to learn that they don't get to set the fee and we won't just beg for scraps.  I would rather keep him as a squad player for that price, I genuinely think he is no worse than Perez and can do things that AP can't.

Looked good today

He did. One of our better set piece takers too (not that that's particularly difficult!) Maybe we should make like American football and bring him on only for corners and free kicks??

Nah, he is a good footballer. Lovely feet... when he gets the ball under control that is.  But let's not get carried away, he's best off leaving. For all his obvious skills on the ball, he is too slow for our game and he really doesn't get involved enough.

Said it in another thread, but surely he’s a better bet than Perez?

If you dug up Queen Victoria she would be too.

Pretty sure Besiktas think we will loan him back to them for the final year of his contract and then they get him for nothing next year. No subsiding his wages though , they pay the full amount.

The longer this goes on the more I'm convinced Ghezzal is this year's pre-banishment Under - start Albrighton or Perez and anytime you're desperate for a goal, he goes on for the last 20 minutes.

I am starting to think he may be our right winger -- especially is the view is to work Sowah/Maswanhise into the role next season.

No chance he get a game here...

Rodgers would rather invest time developing Sowah and Maswanhise

I would tend to agree….but remember when Slimani started the season on the bench…and then came on and played last season… in the Prem… for Brendan 👀

I think we are being smart. Don’t let him go until we have landed a rm. if we can’t do the right deal, losing 2/3m isnt the end of the world and keeps us with an option.

I’d much rather that than see us panic buy
