He's quite clearly still suffering an injury isn't he? It's bound to affect him in the kind of pressure our defence faces...

agreed. I thought it was an obvious against villa he’s clearly playing through pain. I felt for him. He needs a good rest.

I don’t think you can really recover from his injury can you? It gets managed to ensure it doesn’t develop into a more serious injury.

When you are struggling with plantar fasciitis the most painful movement is that full planting of the  foot you need to start your sprint

Possibly, but who do we have as a better central defender who can also instruct and lead the back 4, such as it is. He is a defensive icon but those around him are just shite. I know we're bad at the back but look at how much better we did when he came back after injury. It's not his fault that Soyuncu has developed the defensive nouse of a school player or that N'Didi has lost his mojo in front of the defence. He's the best we have at the moment.

Not past it yet but a replacement has to be found that's as experienced and as able to command the defence as JE.

I think you're right and you have to ask yourself whether, with an important game coming up against Napoli, it was absolutely necessary for him to play against Villa so soon after Southampton? Armarty for all his detractors has not been letting us down. If we're managing Vardy, without an injury, why aren't we managing Evans who we can ill afford to be missing for an extended period of time?

Watching him recently he looks like he’s really struggling with quicker attackers, although he hasn’t ever been the quickest defender around he seemed to always be able to read the danger and block efforts or put a tackle in. But this season he looks Vulnerable every time he’s ran at. Have his legs gone ?

Of course he's not passed it. He just absolutely bossed the European Champions and put them into the world cup play-offs. We are the problem, not Jonny

Evans is not past it. The constant negative comments on here say more about our fan base than the players.

Sure we are struggling at certain key aspects of the game, but if it turns out to be a bog standard season then so be it.

Some of you need to get a life and think in positive terms about the City. It’s almost like you enjoy these more difficult times so you can get all judgmental and bitch. Sure we are all entitled to our opinion but the vindictiveness against certain players is uncalled for.

Definitely not past it but what he's being asked to do at his age, week in week out, until the likes of JJ and WF. are back and whilst carrying an ongoing injury is petty immense and `I'm certain he's giving it all he can, given the situation.

I rate him highly and will cut him a lot of slack as he's clearly uncomfortable out there with whatever injuries he has.

I would prefer to think injuries/fitness is a bigger issue than age, but he's in his mid-30s now and it's a one-way street.  He's probably started that downward spiral where he picks up injuries more and recovers more slowly due to age, and never seems to be quite right.

We need to sign Tarkowski in January.

Get Soyuncu to sign a new deal or sell him in the summer.

Sell Vestergaard and Benkovic

leaving next seasons options in order as:

Fofana

Tarkowski

Evans

Soyuncu

Amartey

Classic Foxestalk;

Multiple Threads about underachieving with our quality squad because we aren't in the top 6

Followed by multiple threads saying player x or y is not good enough, over the hill or crap.

The irony....................

Jonny Evans is class.  Not his fault he is having to play week in, week out when unfit, because Fofana is injured and Soyuncu is playing so badly.

Agreed, not passed it, but needs managing. We'd probably do a lot worse than to let him organise the defence in training instead of Rodgers and his coaching staff.

I imagine his season is probably done with him out until April

18 months left on his contract, probably spend next season as our 4th/5th choice if we get in the 2+ new centre backs we will need in the summer

He is great when he is fit, but getting too many long term injuries now

Yet he still goes on international duty

Can we just transplant johnny’s brain into Vesty’s?

Liverpool  must be a terrible team if they cant score against  such a poor defence

Not past it, but if we can’t get Jonny on the pitch, he is no good to us.

we need a CB in January to see us to the end of the season and beyond and then another in the summer..

we were always 1 light going into this season before the fofana injury ( especially as Jonny was still injured from May)

Let’s not write him off just yet. Scrap this season for him, no point trying to rush him back, do it properly, get him fully fit for pre season and see how he goes.

I know Tarkowski isn’t the most creative of suggestions but the signing makes so much sense and if Evans did blow up again next season, slotting Tarkowski alongside Fofana I think would still give us that experience and organisation and would be a better fit than the Soyuncu/Fofana partnership

Been a great signing when you consider what we paid but he's starting to struggle. I've always maintained that it would've been fantastic if we'd have signed him two years earlier but he's been brilliant all the same.
