You what? Hitting the bar is not testing in the keeper?

No, testing the keeper means to force the goalkeeper into a save, which obviously means a shot hitting the bar isn’t that.

Of course! When you hit the bar the keeper just stands there. Must have done the same for the two shots on target too.

I would go as far to say that hitting the bar is actually beating the keeper.

Typical cagey first leg match.   Not bad 1st half, but the 2nd half was disappointing.   Worked hard, huffed and puffed, but didn't have the cutting edge in the last third to work their defence and keeper enough.   Still everything to play for.

Atmosphere was ok ... bearing in mind it was only (overall) fairly drab 1st leg 0-0.

I though the referee had a good game.   He wasn't a jobsworth whistle-happy ref, and didn't really fall for too much play acting.

And as has been said before for some previous Euro games ... what joy not to have VAR.    Just to be able to live in the moment, and not worry that 2 minutes later some dodgy penalty is going to be given against you.

Or a legitimate penalty

I’m not overly concerned I think we’ve got enough to beat PSV they’re certainly not as good as Renne, but this is often our downfall. But we’ve got to address the attack. We need to find a way to work in two attackers even if it’s going to a back three because that allows Kelechi to flourish, and without Vardy we need goals.

Despite the 0-0 I thoroughly enjoyed the match. It was a good tactical battle with both teams working incredibly hard defensively. 1 goal next week will decide this.

Couldn’t believe how passive they were last night. Even the likes or Norwich will turn up at our place and give it more of a go than that. They were clearly shit scared of their dodgy defence conceding.

That being said, you saw shades of what their front 4 can do. Will be an entirely different game next week and hopefully we can be a bit more incisive with a bit more space on offer.

Disappointed, we could have had the tie practically over with a bit more bravery on our own part.

....I got the impression that had Albrighton not received a yellow, Barnes would have been pulled off to be replaced by Lookman!!!

Once the change had been made it was then difficult for Rodgers to change it for the positive. Lookman should always come on for Barnes, he gives us something different, and also would have given their defender something to worry about.

Not sure about this. BR rarely subs off Barnes, I think it was always going to be Albrighton, especially with the number of games he's been playing. I said before though, Barnes should have been switched to the right. He was gash on the left anyways so he'd be gash on the right but at least we'd have Lookman (who's far better on the left that the right) giving it a go. But Barnes seems BRs golden child so doesn't ever want to upset him.

Rubbish. Barnes hit the bar.

A fraction more to the left is testing the keeper, hitting the right post is missing the bloody target

lol I put most of my efforts into the lake or the woodland behind the goal.

I'm going to stop admitting that and just tell the lads down the pub that I didn't bag but beat the keeper on numerous occasions lol

It’s a standard football phrase with an defined meaning, to force the goalkeeper into a save.

I'm curious (not about the 'testing the keeper' debate, that's just amusing) which were our officially logged 2 shots on target? I'm struggling to remember a save their keeper made. Collecting crosses and corners, yes, but a save....

Maddison hit one in the first half that was more like a pass to their keeper

Ah yes, I vaguely recall, thanks. Maddison didn't get anything on it.... I guess it counts as a shot.

Nacho's control was near-impeccable tonight.

Other than the huge miss, he had a very good outing.

What? lol

He missed an absolute sitter, his first touch let him down more times than not as well.

I would ask what part of "huge miss" befuddled you, but I don't want to be banned again...lol

What bothers me is playing a much weakend side against Palace and lose,  just to get stuffed at PSV on Thursday. It will have been all for nothing then. I hope not.

We need to win 8 or 9 of our remaining PL games to stand any chance of top 7, it's quite obvious where the priority has to lie here. We are 4 games away from the Europa League group stages, where as if we somehow get 7th we go in to the qualifying rounds for the very competition we have a very good chance of winning.

Last night only increased my appetite for Madueke. Really think he would fit perfectly into our side. He's clearly very talented.

Can't see us going there and winning so I feel that's us out.

Been pointed out to me the colour of the teams who’ve knocked us historically out of Europe 🥺

Although I didn’t see anything extraordinary from them that’s making me fear going over there. Like if that was Rennes you’d be resigned to getting beat.  These not so much.

I think they were containing themselves a bit at our place.   I reckon they will raise their game being at home and with the stakes involved in the second leg.   That is what I am fearing.

He'd fit in well here because he looks incredibly frustrating!

Castagne and Maddison hit relatively tepid shots 'saved' by their GK...
