I'm convinced there's a player in there. Especially if he can be taught to drive forward more often, because he's good at it when he does. I reckon it's a confidence issue.

First we have to get him out of that DM role and stick Ndidi next to him to give him more license to drive forwards. Fingers crossed but there were some signs of a good player in those 45 minutes

Agreed. He will look even better with a DM like Ndidi next to him.

Very good display tonight. Only his second season with us so there is every chance that he is finally settling in and could come good. I wouldn't let him leave until next season if he doesn't.

Not sure why everyone is obsessed with him being crap but I don't really care.

All it needed was for him to get his teeth done.

Worked for Brendan too.

He was excellent tonight. Looked like the player I thought we were buying in the first place. Strong in the tackle, slick on the ball and able to drive forward with the ball. Also got in a great left footed shot. Maybe Monaco had some scouts at the game?

....pretty much what I was thinking!!!

It really is something when a player has a chance to get out of the club and his game and worth ethics pick up. I noticed Soyuncu was on it tonight, showed well on the ball, and seemed a foot taller tonight, with some deft touches on the ball.

Soumare looked very good tonight, always looking to play forward, there were opportunities for him to pass back to the defenders but was not happy to do so and looked to go forward. He seemed happier tonight, I would say he knows he is on his way out.

There’s the player we were all excited about last year…Hope this performance raises his value, or better yet – he decides to stay.

Assuming they both stay, I am backing Soumare to take Tielemans place in the first team. I can see Youri’s poor form continuing next season and surely Brendan will have to consider benching him.

Was a stand out tonight, looked sharp and fit and hungry to get involved and I suspect with Monaco scouts watching they would have seen all this and been suitably impressed. Should help to get his move over the line and squeeze a few extra mill we need.

Best of look if he goes.

You can’t judge a player in a pre season friendly

the intensity of the week to week PL is missing - that’s what he struggled with.  You can’t let your concentration drop.

he did look a ‘happier player’ than we’ve seen since the autumn ….. and happy players tend to play well. tbh, if I was going to live in Monaco I’d also be smiling!

so your saying a player can turn it on and off when he wants and it’s not down to the manager then?

Three big differences tonight.

1. Put in a shift. Was up and down all second half, putting in work at both ends of the pitch.

2. Showed his physicality. Got stuck in, fended off other players well. Not afraid to compete.

3. Played the ball WAY faster. Too often he's guilty of dawdling on the ball. Tonight he played it quickly, often times simply but also had some fantastic raking long range and cross field passes.

I expect he still leaves, but there is a player in there for sure.

He looks thinner and fitter this preseason. Maybe loan is right choice if he’s not going to play. Seems in the Youri mould of needing regular matches to create momentum (not stylistically)
