Popular Post The whole world smiles Posted 2 April 2023 Popular Post Posted 2 April 2023 I know this is going to go down like a plate of cold sick and I completely accept that it was time for him to go. But there's a lot of revisionism going on about his time at city. I've seen several people describe the FA cup win as lucky, i mean with respect Fu×k off we beat 4 premier league sides including Chelsea and man United and if all you need to win it is a bit of luck how come no one else managed it in 137 attempts? Anyway here are some cold hard facts that will show that despite all the bitterness, toxidity and anger on the board recently in the context of the clubs history his tenure has been one of the most successful of any manger - Brendan was in charge for 2 of 3 best finishes in the clubs entire history. - after 137 failed attempts was the only manger in our entire 139 year history to win the FA Cup beating Man United and Chelsea in process. - beat every single member of the supposed top 6 at least twice. - reached the quarter finals in cup competitions 4 times the semis twice and of course won one. 57 10 1
Popular Post kristianity77 Posted 2 April 2023 Popular Post Posted 2 April 2023 Fa cup win aside I won't remember him fondly at all. I remember two mammoth chokes to get champions league football then I remember the 18 month decline leading to where we are today which is a soulless, directionless shell of a football club. I'm not sure any player has come in under his reign that you can think as a success. The bloke has been stealing a living. 24 2 1
Popular Post lcfc_forever Posted 2 April 2023 Popular Post Posted 2 April 2023 (edited) I think both things can be true - he did a very good job in his first two full seasons, but the wheels began to fall off after that defeat to Spurs compounded by a poor transfer window and Fofana's injury. He deserves a lot of credit for those seasons, especially the FA Cup win - we beat four PL sides and Brentford who got promoted that season. We should all acknowledge that. But his management more recently has been so poor, and his comments at the start of the season made things so much worse. It made things so toxic at the club. While it's disappointing it ended this way, both parties are simply better off without each other. Edited 2 April 2023 by lcfc_forever 16 2
Popular Post MrsJohnMurphy Posted 2 April 2023 Popular Post Posted 2 April 2023 I think if he'd been sacked when he should have been sacked he'd be remembered alot more fondly, as it is I think alot more time will need to pass before we can appreciate the first couple of years (especially if we go down) 7
Popular Post ARTY_FOX Posted 2 April 2023 Popular Post Posted 2 April 2023 (edited) Fa cup aside. He bought me nothing but resounding disappointment at every turn. He's probably resigned us to a position we'll never recover from. I wouldn't wish him on any club. Edited 2 April 2023 by ARTY_FOX 8 1
Popular Post foxfanazer Posted 2 April 2023 Popular Post Posted 2 April 2023 **** him. The frauds taken enough from this club 9 2
Matt Posted 2 April 2023 Posted 2 April 2023 Cheers for the two half season's and the FA Cup. That's about all I can say, his time here has been outweighed by the shit and football that stunk the place out unfortunately. 4
majaco Posted 2 April 2023 Posted 2 April 2023 Two top 5 Legendary manager. He won the FA Cup. Got 2 top 5 finishes. European semi-final. Was kept too long. Has been frustrating as anything all season. Hopefully, we can avoid relegation with someone else leading us. 1
SemperEadem Posted 2 April 2023 Posted 2 April 2023 Got a good quote off him on safe standing once. 1 1
Popular Post somebum Posted 2 April 2023 Popular Post Posted 2 April 2023 He was the turd that wouldn't flush, felt right at the time but ended up a nightmare, egomaniac, tactically inept, polarising and certainly not the coach he is made out to be. 6
adam Posted 2 April 2023 Posted 2 April 2023 That European Cup semi final was another brendan special. Completely bottled it. Horrendous display in Rome. 1
don_danbury Posted 2 April 2023 Posted 2 April 2023 a lot of good performances and a lot of bottle job moments. it's been a bit 50/50 really.
Popular Post Jattdogg Posted 2 April 2023 Popular Post Posted 2 April 2023 Stay classy lads. Thanks for the good memories ( Fa cup, europe etc.) Didn't work out and that's okay. All the best, just not against us of course 8
foxfanazer Posted 2 April 2023 Posted 2 April 2023 Best paid manager we've ever had and has left us in a complete mess. Thanks for sticking Youri in the starting lineup for the Cup final. That's about it 3
Sir Shep Posted 2 April 2023 Posted 2 April 2023 When he first came the football was fantastic, the 9 nil and FA cup will always live fondly in my memory. Good luck to him, he'll get a good gig, look brilliant for 2 years then the results will drop and he'll be sacked. Rince and repeat whilst receiving plenty of oral off the media. 1

HesNotGudjonsonn2 Posted 2 April 2023 Posted 2 April 2023 I thought this thread was going to be sarcastic… he is an ego centric tool.
Ian S Posted 2 April 2023 Posted 2 April 2023 His conduct this season has tarnished most of the good memories, thanks for the FA Cup it was a wonderful day to be at Wembley but amazingly you managed to make me dislike you nearly as much as Peter Taylor despite this great achievement. That takes some doing. 1
KingsX Posted 2 April 2023 Posted 2 April 2023 (edited) I think the time for this thread might be in a few years, when we're able to see whether the club stays up, recovers from the damage, etc, and emotions have cooled. It's a no-brainer to say there were strong positives as well as negatives, but ATM it appears he's leaving the club in considerably worse shape than he found it. Edited 2 April 2023 by KingsX 2
Mark 'expert' Lawrenson Posted 2 April 2023 Posted 2 April 2023 Thanks for the FA cup, never thought id see us win it, and I’m 55. The rest…. Well absolutely horrendous over the last 18 months.
Popular Post Dusty Posted 2 April 2023 Popular Post Posted 2 April 2023 I think it’s a shame how a lot of people will remember him. He is one of the best football managers the club has ever had and we had a period of success unseen by the club before even when the competition is tougher than ever. Brendan had his flaws and what we’ve seen for the last year has not been good enough. But we will do well to see us finish in the top 5 again for the next decade, or probably longer and maybe never again in our lifetimes. The fact that his success is taken for granted is a shame. We comfortably over achieved, but people will still find a way to say he failed. I’ve never really understood a lot of the personal attacks on him either, there were very few things he said in press conferences or in the media that bothered me that much and I think a lot of people on here over exaggerated it because they didn’t like him. Hopefully we can all move on from it now, this has been a pretty depressing place to be recently. 9
Popular Post Vestan Pance Posted 2 April 2023 Popular Post Posted 2 April 2023 (edited) Can we stop pretending that reaching the conference league semi final was any sort of achievement for a club with a top 20 wage bill in world football. We were knocked out of the Europa by teams on a 10th of our budget. Edited 2 April 2023 by Vestan Pance 9
