The fact is there were a load more there than there would have been without general sale.

 

A 28,000 attendance does not equate to "empty seats all over". If you want to use that phrase justifiably, have a look around at 85+ minutes most league games.

Compared when I looked for tickets (Tues or Weds) there were a lot who came and bought them on general sale. Was thinking it was going to be under 20,000.

Big chunks of those were in the padded corporate areas other than that it was mainly individual seats dotted round the ground. Twitter and socials in general are full of people who were at their first game or who took their kids for the first time which is what it's all about. There's also bound to be empty seats given how late the gen sale got sorted out and so many people budgeting these days. Bloke taking two kids is still £50+ so it's a bit judgy to decide it's a failure when you've no real idea of why people would or wouldn't be there.

 

Credit to the section too, loudest it's been this season.

Speaking as someone who has no connection to UFS (to avoid any allegations from you), it’s because you have come on picking arguments and making baseless claims that you can’t back up to attack our fan base and supporter groups.

 

Im not sure what the deal is with STHs and cup games these days but if they have to buy separately and for example, you had 28,000 STHs normally and an attendance of 28,000 yesterday, that doesn’t mean that was all STHs and no one taking the general sale. How do you know that 10,000 STHs didn’t bother and 10,000 general sale did? In that scenario, if they’d not bothered with general sale (or should I saw caved in to pressure), yesterday could have then been sub 20,000.

 

All ifs and buts and neither you, nor I or anyone on here knows exactly. But as someone said above, if you just take the game and attendance in its own merits, a relatively uninspiring tie against a divisional rival, at the end of January when people are notoriously worried about finances waiting for pay days etc, 28,000 is not bad!

More to the point, it wouldn't have mattered if the crowd had only been 18000, that wouldn't have made having tickets go on general sale wrong. 

There should always be a general sale, when there are spare tickets available.

It was short sighted, and just plain wrong that someone at the club thought differently.

Sure you've had plenty of quotes on this but here is another.

 

General sale is not just about selling out remaining seats, the main purpose is to enable fans who cannot usually attend matches to get their foot in the door. I know at least 2 people who made use of this. So that's a win.

 

The fact it didn't sell out is not the problem of general sale, it's the fact so many STH's and members couldn't be bothered or simply didn't want to spend more money (whatever the reason).

I was in my normal place yesterday and noticed two unfamiliar faces nearby. Got talking to them and it turned out to be a young lad and and his grandad. The grandad had brought his grandson to his first game. The lad was wide-eyed and absolutely buzzing with excitement. I must admit it made me feel a bit emotional. The young verses older age argument at football in this moment wasn’t a negative, it was the essence of what football culture should be like. They were both also proof that you can sit/stand in your seats for a couple of hours without seemingly having any adverse effects on your health.

For all those campaigning for the next generation of football fans fair play to you. I don’t care how many negative stories there were from yesterday, the availability of general sale tickets was a success from my experience.

I took my lad yesterday, sat in SK2.....Tickets bought through general sale.  

 

£30 for the two of us.... If it had been double (because of paying for membership) we wouldn't have gone. 

 

General sale tickets is an absolute no brainer for a club our size. Granted, there won't be huge amounts of games that go to general sale... But it really does help "casual" fans, shift workers, people who live far away, those with young kids testing the water 

 

And guess what happens, those fans might decide to go more often, they might treat themselves to merchandise from the club shop, buy a burger, buy a programme, then a membership...

so what is your point? even if only 1 more person goes due to general sales that is extra revenue to the club, potential for more noise in the stadium, potential for more sales at the stadium canteen, potential for more sales to the shops near the stadium, potential for more fans to interact with each other and the potential to introduce new fans to LCFC.  The negatives ... well... more wear and tear on the seat and ..... ummmm .... oh and maybe more litter for the stadium cleaners to pick up after the game.

Took my little one to their first game yesterday. Sat in the family stand. Apart from getting in which took forever and led to us missing kick off I was generally impressed with the setup for families. Facilities seemed decent and stewards were very friendly. Much different to SK1 where my ST is located. Had a great time, and it was nice to introduce the little one to the LCFC family.

I hope the decision makers at LCFC are reading this. Loved reading the stories of young children attending their first game. It’s what’s supporting your club is all about. I remember my first game v Villa in 1976. Sat in the East Stand and I was in awe at the size of the stand and stadium 🤣

 

A lot the club’s fan pacification policies in the last few years have been baffling (lack of general sales) and have sowed the seeds we are seeing now with the subdued atmosphere. All clubs need new fans coming to watch their teams otherwise the support base can become stale which I think is one of our problems.
