Ings by comparison 70ish over the same period. Thats the kicker for me. All well and good having him as the senior figure but he’s never fit. Always got some niggly injury and never quite recovers from it. I do agree, we need players who will play 40 + games a season, we wouldn't have gone down last season had we had a squad that could stay injury free

If nothing else, he will bring leadership, vitality and actually, everything that you would expect from a senior pro in terms of professionalism. Something that we have been sorely lacking for years. Pretty much word for word what was said about Connor Coady when he signed 1
Popular Post jv1 Posted 9 July Popular Post Posted 9 July Danny Ings is a very decent signing on a 1 yr deal in league one - end of 4 2
wurmer Posted 9 July Posted 9 July He'll be injured most of the season. League 1 is a little more 'agricultural'...
kingfox Posted 9 July Posted 9 July I just hope this is the start of a similar pattern regarding Russell Martin’s recruitment, at MK Dons he signed the likes of Cameron Jerome, Andrew Surman and Richard Keogh to add a bit of experience, but on top of those, you had a shed load of signings that were under 25. Same case at Swansea signing the likes of Jamie Paterson and Joe Allen, the rest of the recruitment were pretty much players under 25. At Southampton it was more of a mixed bag. I just hope this isn’t the start of us overloading the squad with 30+ year olds, that will just deflate an already deflated fanbase even more. 1
Dan Posted 9 July Posted 9 July Is it not a bit of a red flag that immediately a lot of people's reaction to this is "it's only a year". Instinctively that just tells you even they think it's not a particularly good signing. I'd rather we had players you were happy to see tied down for a while rather than ones where we're already counting down the days until the exit. It isn't impossible that he's a steady option for us but there are too many similarities to the sorts of transfer that have put us in this position in the first place for me to overlook. The Southampton link again just tells me it's probably another off the record chat with Glover where they've gone "do you know anyone free" and in his contacts list Danny Ings name alphabetically arrives before Nathan Redmond. I did quite like Ings, was a decent player, and doesn't seem a bad egg. But I'd not be surprised if we're sat here in October and have realised oh shit, he can't move or impact a game even at this level. If he's coming in it should be as 3rd choice. But it won't be. 4

We have signed Danny Ings, missed most of the last few years with injury, with a poor goalscoring record albeit in higher leagues, no sell on potential and likely to be on treble if not more than the wages Barry will be on, whilst the club is in a dire financial situation exacerbated by keeping overpaid, lazy players on high wages. I know who I'd rather have, and it is not Ings. And Gray on loan from Leeds
LCFCCKEANO Posted 9 July Posted 9 July If he is a back up option to a Tolaj/Ballard/Wareham it’s ok, if he is our starter it’s terrible. 11 more signings according to Percy, you’d imagine another striker would be at least one

This would be sound logic if you didn't look at our actual senior squad. We don't really have anybody. If a solid senior pro who isn't a particularly problematic personality and has an alright track record at higher levels is going to sign on for just a year then it fills a spot at least and we haven't panicked and done a BDCR / Ayew and given them a multi year contract to **** ourselves. We need to sign too many players, we're not going to be able to pay fees for them all and have them all be good young players. 2

We have a load of overpaid, pretty awful footballers, that won't go elsewhere as they'll be paid substantially less and don't have even close to the correct level of desire to get us out of the situation that we're in. We're not in a position to be spending money on players without getting rid of the kind just mentioned first. I think we'd all rather have Barry than Ings.

Feels very much like someone the club talk to has gone "Danny doesn't have a club and would be up for playing for you" I do enjoy the fact that pattern recognition just disappears for most football fans, or maybe doesn't exist in some cases, whenever someone new comes to the club

They will half arse it like always, this doesn't really signal any sort of shift in transfer policy. That article says we want up to 11 signings. I bet they don't manage 6 permanent.
DerbyshireFox Posted 9 July Posted 9 July First reaction is I’ll take it at this level. We need bodies in the forward line. I don’t expect him to be the main option, I’d hope we are bringing in another couple of forwards 🙏🤞🏻. Can see where others are coming from, but I don’t think it’s realistic to expect Evans or Hutchinson to be starting every week and putting up numbers that will push us in a position to challenge either. This summer feels a very much wait and see. Until the Monga deal goes through and we move others out if we can, I don’t think we’ll see any massive movement inwards.
Manwell Pablo Posted 9 July Posted 9 July (edited) Danny ings is done lads. Spent enough time watching Sheffield United to know that. It’s league one, a poor league one at that so he might do ok at best but personally I think he’s completely shot. in his limited performances I can’t remember him even looking like scoring. st albans fox Posted 9 July Posted 9 July I like this deal because he should be good for the youngsters to learn from. I think he will be more invested in helping them than someone like ayew was. 1
Joe90 Posted 9 July Posted 9 July Great signing for the position this club are in! Anyone who thinks otherwise, give your self a reality check where this club is 2
