We probably won’t get a penny for anything can’t wait to see what or if any punishment is coming their way in the meantime this is theoretically what they could lose but it’s a bit late now !

Have the PL officially confirmed the guilty verdicts or waiting to decide on what punishment to hand  out first ?

The stakeholders (other clubs) were informed of the verdicts on Thursday pm

hence it leaked out on Friday

it seems that Man City are appealing ahead of sanctions being decided.  Whether that means the PL will wait for the appeal before delivering punishment is unknown. However, Man City would surely appeal the sanctions anyway.  So there are probably two appeals still to be heard.

unless all parties sit down and come to a set of sanctions that are acceptable to all then this will drag on and on.  Imagine Man City being presented with the PL trophy next may whilst appeals are ongoing. Totally unsatisfactory and makes the league a laughing stock.  Each game they play away from home will see them abused for cheating.  Someone will come up with a chant and it will reverberate every week on our screens.  I just can’t see the league allowing this to play out with the damage to the brand becoming ever deeper.

hence my post on Friday evening that I think it more than likely that discussions are ongoing behind the scenes to come up with a set of sanctions that the club will accept.  (Which includes other clubs not being able to take them to court for damages). whether that can be extended to clubs outside the PL is unlikely but that could be dealt with via private settlements.

as an example,

a huge fine that 100% goes to grass roots for things like community 3G pitches. (That’s a certain kop out because the authorities will then surely reduce funds over the following years but the headline would be effective).
a set of compensation payments for clubs adversely affected 2009/2018.
a sizeable points deduction which is designed to ensure that they just stay up. (50?)

a two or three year transfer ban

Yes there will probably be a few concessions and deals made between parties .

Anybody trying to claim retrospective trophies of the back of this can get in the bin. Sounds like such an Arsenal thing to do

While it’s very shit for everyone, it is the reality and not really an Arsenal thing is it.

Ultimately, anyone who finished second to them has a legitimate point that they have been cheated out a title. Look at what happened with Juventus and their titles being awarded to Inter, nobody is celebrating it but it’s the reality.

Such a loser mentality imo

Football is crooked, especially at the very top but it's funny to see certain clubs wanting the book thrown at Man City whilst acting holier than thou

Especially as Rodgers would receive a medal after he threw the title away.

I wonder if they may look to a multi season points deduction rather than a one season hit.

instead of hitting them for a 50/60 point deduction they could go for 3 seasons at 20 points this ensures City stay in the PL protecting TV revenues etc, however would effectively end any title or champions league qualification for 3 seasons which would hurt them, also a massive fine straight to grassroots and multi season transfer embargo as you have suggested.

https://www.mancity.com/news/club/a-letter-from-the-chairman-to-manchester-city-fans-63926027

I have been part of this Club for 18 years. I have had the privilege to stand with you in the Etihad, at Wembley, and in Istanbul. This Club matters to me, and you have shown and told me – time and time again - how much Manchester City matters to you. This is why I am writing to you today.

Following Friday’s media reporting, many of you will have spent your evening answering questions and responding to messages from friends, family and colleagues. So have I. Here’s what I said to my family: The Premier League process still has a long way to run, and our confidence and intent in proving the Club’s innocence is just as strong as when this began.

There are so many things that I would like to be able to share with you to help you understand why we feel so confident in our position. But the strict confidentiality of the legal process and our determination to respect it means I cannot do that at the moment. Even this letter underwent several legal checks to make sure it complies.

I ask you to please carefully read the statement below, which we gave on Friday, and the statement we issued in February 2023 (also below). Every word matters and holds true.

While some people have been quick to reach their own conclusions, and there is so much noise swirling around us, nothing has changed. We have faced challenges together before and have prevailed. There remain many who want to undermine the momentum of our Club. We will not give them that opportunity.

We have some exciting moments to look forward to after this international break.  We travel to Anfield in a fortnight, and then host Paris St Germain in the Champions League back at Etihad Stadium - moments that give us an opportunity to celebrate the strength of the Manchester City family.

Thank you, as always, for your constant support.

Khaldoon Al Mubarak

Chairman

Manchester City Football Club

Club Statement Friday 25th September 2026

The Premier League process remains ongoing, with significant elements to be completed, and subject to strict confidentiality.  As such Manchester City FC’s position remains consistent with the Club’s statement of February 2023.

The Club has diligently respected due process for eight years on the basis that the Premier League Board and Executive would behave as an independent, impartial and fair-minded regulator, free from partisan influence.

Club Statement February 2023

Manchester City FC is surprised by the issuing of these alleged breaches of the Premier League Rules, particularly given the extensive engagement and vast amount of detailed materials that the EPL has been provided with.

The Club welcomes the review of this matter by an independent Commission, to impartially consider the comprehensive body of irrefutable evidence that exists in support of its position.

As such we look forward to this matter being put to rest once and for all.

Their chairman is very confident, they're probably loving the fact this decision has been leaked unofficially.

You just know they'll try and get off on a technicality claming the whole process was unfair and they've been tried by the media.

That’s not a punishment. That’s almost an investment. Wrong on every level when you consider the original wrong Man City did became a huge investment for their club and the premier league.

On reflection, although it has taken a very long time at least the authorities have made the charge.

The precedent abroad has been relegation (Juventus and Rangers) and stripping of titles (Juventus). I would expect a similar sanction to be considered due to the size of the breaches and the fact that these breaches have been the stepping stone for man city to become an elite club.

Its important to consider the position of man city at the start of these charges and the impact of their success in attracting players!

Interesting times indeed!

It’s not what I would do but I could see them doing it

This outcome has just so many ramifications which will not unfold for years yet.

Personally I would have them dropped from all cup competitions (including European) immediately going forward. While othe things are being considered.

But best of all I am looking forward to meeting those two arragant bast...ds down the pub that have been constantly thrusting how great Citeh are down my throat.

How would we get two league cups out of this?

I agree it’s shit but it’s how it goes, in athletics if someone gets done for doping the next person gets awarded the win, the moment has gone and that’s what it’s all about but the records are corrected.

Completely agree on the second point, we did part of what Man City are accused of and yet we have people on here that are turning a blind eye to it.

In interviews, players have given plenty of hints about “bonuses” that Vichai gave them that didn’t go through the books.

I've seen references on here to our wrongdoings during our promotion to the Prem under Pearson but have no idea of the details.  Can someone clarify that for me.

I assume it was for a bit of an overspend.

They broke the rules for 9 seasons

a 30 point annual deduction for seasons 1 to 4 and 15 seasons 5 to 9?  Total 180 points.

they’d have to sell a few players to meet their SCR obligations by season 2

they’d lose sponsorship revenue

some players would ask to leave as no CL football (unless they win it this season)

And in the end, yes, it’s not the punishment that we’d think was justified but the premier league is a commercial product and turkeys don’t vote for Xmas

they’d be in danger of relegation by season 4.

I assume it was for a bit of an overspend.

We created a company in Sheffield to funnel additional funds into the club (effectively from KP)

I think it was somewhere between 10 and 15 mill.

Ever feel you’ve been cheated? Consequences could be profound after Manchester City guilty verdict | Manchester City | The Guardian

This is a great article and does raise questions about are the bounds of the advantaged received limited to the years of the breachs?

Could get very messy!

'There are knock-on effects to the years after the period in question. Leicester, for instance, narrowly missed out on Champions League qualification in 2020 and 2021. Would they have qualified had City, who finished above them, not been artificially juiced? Had they played in the Champions League then, would they be in the mess they are in now? Then there are the less direct consequences: what might it have meant for a club’s – or a manager’s or a player’s – global reputation and thus their capacity to generate commercial income, had they won the league or remained in the Premier League for a further season?'

Wasn’t that clear cut on Serie A in that example

There is/was no winner of Serie A 2004/2005.

The season after 05/06 because the charge was made with that season. Hence it makes a bit more sense that Juve were disqualified as the season was still ‘active’ - most of Juve’s board had resigned by the end of the season

The Man City is more retrospective so you’d expect a scenario like 2004/2005

Inter got awarded some of the titles though didn’t they? Or have I misremembered?

I don’t have too much hope for appropriate punishments given how the PL have dealt with Chelsea. I know Chelsea have successfully argued they voluntarily handed the information out. But it’s laughable they have got off Scot free for crimes which when other clubs have done has led to serious punishment in the case of Boston United, it completely sent them tumbling down the pyramid
