Burnley have made 4 bids, the highest just under 4 million, bloody hell they are trying the Leicester way of buying players

Bless them, quite funny how they sweat away over 4 bids and we trump their latest by £1m on the first attempt

It may be funny, but the only person that should be laughing at this is Dave Whelan.

Hahahaaaa i'm not getting too greedy, either of them would do me. Obviously i'd rather we got the bald eagle but failing that McArthur will do.

I don't understand the issue everyone is having with the cost of players. If we pay £10 mil for this lad, so what?

if the owners, the manager and Terry and happy with the fee then that's all that matter. its their money, and if we pay it its because we can afford it.

Well said

I'm starting to wonder... Can we afford these fees?.. Are we as rich as we think we are?...

Yes.

£63million guaranteed for finishing bottom of the Prem. We got less than £1m for winning the Championship.

+ a further £60m in parachute payments.

+ Increased revenue this season down to ticket sales, merchandise and sponsorship and advertising, shirt sales, etc

+ Many new marketing streams that are open to us to exploit now we are premier league.

This is without even mentioning the investment that the our multi millionaire backers have at their disposal should we need it.

Isnt it fickle on here that we have people asking the question as to whether we can afford transfer fees.

A whole summer moaning and groaning about non signings and on the day we may be actually getting another one in we want to be prudent.lol

except of course that the unintended consequence is that it has inflated the value of their rivals' squads - at a time when they are putting out a youth team and are bottom of the table with no really saleable playing assets the likes of Leeds are quoting 6 mill for Byram whilst Deeney and Rhodes will change hands for close to the sort of transfer fees commanded by Balotelli

I'm not saying that it worked out well for them. They seem pretty awful at the moment. They undoubtedly set a precedent for future transfer deals though.

Well one of you 2 are wrong.

2 games in and we already have the death knell of our premiership status whilst also being too good to go down.

Pretty much FT condensed into it's purest form.

Pretty clear who is wrong - I'm always right and DT is always wrong.

I'm more positive on this transfer. Whelan is an honest enough bloke and doesn't really mess around. My thought is that he's set a figure and the two clubs are negotiating. Once both are happy Whelan will let the lad talk to us and hopefully job done.

Wigan are one of the better clubs yo do business with I would have thought. Just my opinion

Minus the large wage bill this year, minus the 4 year contacts everyone has signed = less left than people think!

Yes I think your right. Seems a decent, honest bloke Dave Whelan does. I can't see him moving the goalposts too much, if we come back with an improved bid I think he will accept.

Very much agreed on that, seem to get good value and won't be dictated to, but very honest.

St Ledger, Danns and Gallagher have gone.

There's an extra £75k/week, right there.

Unfortunately Gallagher is still contracted with Leicester for another year and I doubt Preston are paying all of his wages.

I think the improved wages for every player will wipe that out quite easily. Plus the wages of the players we've added and will add.

I'd prefer this deal to Cambiasso: I think he'd be a better fit to our current style of play (and wage structure?). Whelan's comments make me think tis may happen of NP is really interested.
