hackneyfox Posted 4 July 2016 Posted 4 July 2016 A non league striker that was obviously much better than the level he was playing at Michael Keane has done nothing to suggest he is any better than championship quality I don't mind paying over the odds for players that are going to improve our squad, Michael Keane is not one of those players. I didn't rate him the last time he was with us and I don't rate him now, especially not enough to be paying 20 million for him. You'd be expecting to get a world class CB for that kind of money. A certain Mr Walsh clearly disagrees with you as to whether he is capable of playing PL football.
Babylon Posted 4 July 2016 Posted 4 July 2016 You'd be expecting to get a world class CB for that kind of money. Not so sure that's the case any more, Mangala, Otamendi, Baba all a bit cack. United paying £30m for Bailey. He's not worth £20m by a long shot. But that kind of money for centre backs is going to happen more and more. Chester was £8m last year... in this Market they'd be asking much more than that.
Bunyip Posted 4 July 2016 Posted 4 July 2016 Each season the money gets bigger and wilder so it's very hard to judge what a player's worth . We can only go on the last season in our minds but the world's gone mad in terms of the Premiership prices.
Rusko187 Posted 4 July 2016 Posted 4 July 2016 I thought he was ok but even £12m is too much for him. Than again there is a lack of real quality CBs so naturally prices over inflate for average players, Walsh seems to see something in him... so if it's good enough for him than it's good enough for me. Give em £25m
mozartfox Posted 4 July 2016 Posted 4 July 2016 Offer them £15 million plus Liam Moore. Offer them 10 million and a bottle of Captain Morgan Rum. Too much money. Not worth it.
Bluearmyfox28 Posted 4 July 2016 Posted 4 July 2016 Offer them £15 million plus Liam Moore.[/quote They won't be interested in that they're premiership now last season maybe but they will no doubt be looking for better than that now.

Tielemans63 Posted 4 July 2016 Posted 4 July 2016 Really can't get excited about this one. He was decent when he played for us but that was it. Still seems decent but £12 million+? No thanks. Sent from my SM-G920F using Tapatalk

Grey Fox Posted 4 July 2016 Posted 4 July 2016 From what I gather, Keane really wants to join Leicester (Champions League and all that) and, being a regular England U21, wants to get full international honours as soon as possible. But he is not the sharpest tool in the box and sulked a lot when he was on the bench behind Shackell and Duff in our PL season two years ago. Keane played OK but had to be taken out of the firing line with 37-year-old Duff recalled for the last 10 games of the season. Despite relegation, we only conceded 4 goals in our final 8 games with Duff and Shackell. Leicester looks an ideal move for him on the face of it, but I reckon Keane is thick enough to believe he will be a regular starter ahead of Morgan and Huth. I don't think he realises he would be on the bench (he hated it at Burnley even for a handful of games). Could be a bad move for him if he only plays a handful of games next season, certainly won't improve his England chances if he is NOT playing regularly. Forget about the price tag. I trust the club to make their own judgement on that. Do you think he's good enough to form a solid partnership with either Morgan or Huth, should one or the other pick up a long term injury? Surely he wouldn't expect to walk straight into our settled starting 11, even if he is a bit thick? As long as he doesn't expect that and is aware he would have to fight his way into the team, then I don't see it being that much of an issue. He's played for us before so we are quite well placed to judge his character. If he had shown any signs of sulking the last time he was here then I doubt we would even be considering him now?
Fox seen in Norwich Posted 4 July 2016 Posted 4 July 2016 Wasyl and Keane as our cup centre backs would work for me
Dr The Singh Posted 4 July 2016 Posted 4 July 2016 If I was Keane, I would be slapping ginge's mourinho in the face, demanding a move. This is his biggest chance to play in the champions league, if he doesn't take it, he will stay in ginge's shadow, and regret it
volpeazzurro Posted 4 July 2016 Posted 4 July 2016 I have to admit that I really rate this lad. Young and extremely raw when he came to us I saw a calmness in him that is unusual. Mistakes he's made plenty but is learning his trade. Even when he was with us I had the feeling that he'd play for England one day.
Jon the Hat Posted 4 July 2016 Posted 4 July 2016 Stones makes **** loads of mistakes, and he is going to be the first £50M defender they say.
lancyclaret Posted 4 July 2016 Posted 4 July 2016 Also wondering what Claret thinks Burnley's chances are this season? Personally i have them finishing bottom in my predictions for two main reasons. 1 - I believe their squad is worse than the last time they were at this level, as i honestly believe ings and specifically trippier, are better than what they have currently. I'm really not convinced Andre Gray has the technical ability to cause problems at this level. 2 - I don't see how they're going to sign anyone decent. They were reluctant to sign anyone last time, and it appears everyone is struggling to sign players this season. If you listed the PL clubs in order of those a player would be most want to sign for, Burnley would undoubtedly be bottom. Of course, they have excellent team spirit. But, you need both hard work and quality. As we showed last season, incredible work rate combined with a some world class players was perfect. But, I don't see Burnley having enough Premier league class players to survive. We have to be favourites to finish in bottom three - but I think we'll finish above Middlesbrough and Hull like we did last season. Boro have a liability of a manager who could crack under the pressure of being in the top flight and the owners have lost interest at Hull and won't back Bruce like they did two years ago. So we only have to finish above one other club......Bournemouth? Watford ?, Palace? , Sunderland (if Allardyce gets England job)? West Brom aren't up to much. Love him or hate him, Dyche is a better manager than the likes of Howe (Russian billionaire money), Watford (who is the manager this week?), Pulis (negative), Pardew (lucky). A year ago when Burnley were relegated, who would have thought 12 months on Dyche would be a Premier League boss again and Pearson a mere Championship manager? I'll be an interested onlooker to see how Pearson does at Derby - could be difficult as Newcastle must be certs for one of the promotion places. The margins are so small.....if Leicester hadn't scored those last-minute winners at home to West Ham and at West Brom plus if we hadn't hit the post with THAT penalty, you'd have almost certainly got relegated and been unable to achieve last's seasons incredible PL title win.
dimmerchant Posted 4 July 2016 Posted 4 July 2016 I think this would be a sensible signing on the basis: - he was very good for us when on loan, especially when considered he was 19 and it was the Championship. Many waxed lyrical and wanted him back (http://www.foxestalk.co.uk/forums/topic/88076-keane-permanent/). - I personally think his game is more suited to the PL than it is the Championship. - there's less risk in the sense the club know him and think he would be a good addition both on ability and attitude. - centre backs usually peak in their late 20s so it would be a solid investment if he continues his current trajectory, especially when factoring in the premium for top CBs (which he could (and Walsh will likely believe) he can become) and his nationality. - bar Chilwell, who may well leave, we have a relatively old defence and Keane would be a great boost for the continuation plan. My main concern is that he could easily be fourth choice and get minimal game time, although hopefully that's negated by progression in the cups and his expectations are managed. If we did get him, I would be surprised if he got a minute of Champions League game time next season, but hopefully that wouldn't be an issue. He seemed to really enjoy his time with us and got on well with the squad (http://www.foxestalk.co.uk/forums/topic/89127-micheal-keane/) so hopefully we get our man.
lancyclaret Posted 4 July 2016 Posted 4 July 2016 He won't be happy to be just a bit-part player and sit on the bench - in a million years he would never have joined "little" Burnley from Manchester United but for lack of first-team opportunities. Seems Walsh "dropped a bollock" by not getting him signed up for the Foxes just 18 months ago when he would have cost you a mere £1.5 million!! Keane was available on loan when you had Morgan & Moore at the back. Where is Moore these days by the way? .

I don't think he dropped a bollock per say because we wouldn't have been able to give him assurances of first team football then and ultimately the experience and quality of Huth was a key catalyst for staying up. Similarly he wouldn't have improved over the last 18 months unless he joined you (or similar) and played every week. A lot of ifs and buts, and it's easy to say with hindsight. Moore is in the squad after a few unsuccessful loans and seems low on confidence. I don't think Ranieri thinks much of him but to be fair he's never been a world beater.
Strokes Posted 4 July 2016 Posted 4 July 2016 Really? How long was it ago that we paid 1 million for a non-league striker? Only six month after we paid one million for wes Morgan.

We seemed to get worse every game he played in, plus he was weak as Fvck. We signed Wasileswki after Keanes loan finished won the championship, survived relegation then won the premier league.
lancyclaret Posted 4 July 2016 Posted 4 July 2016 If you think Keane is that bad....quick give us the £20 million:) Ben Mee is far more important to Burnley anyway. Foxes can buy Keane this summer and then pay £30 million for his replacement James Tarkowski next summer. Sorted.
ScouseFox Posted 4 July 2016 Posted 4 July 2016 A year ago when Burnley were relegated, who would have thought 12 months on Dyche would be a Premier League boss again and Pearson a mere Championship manager? well you were some of the favourites to go up, and we were favourite to go down. so most people, probably. in a year's time i imagine they'll flip flop once more. unless pearson goes mental and gets sacked. or some other unfortunate club ends up with dyche, god bless them. as for keane, don't really see the point. not gonna get into our team atm, barely our squad. presumably be 4th choice at best. 20 mill and a bumper contract. madness.

If we hadn't let a two goal lead slip against Burnley in a game in which we were cruising we might not have needed "The Greatest Escape". In fact, if that hadn't have happened we might might have won the league last year and again this year. Burnley still would've been relegated though.
