That Maguire vid only highlights the lack of option their midfield gives. He holds onto the ball and shields for so long, but his only option is still the player out wide on the other side of the pitch. (Even worse, said player pools himself when an Arsenal player closed him down.)

He was caught in possession because there was no one showing for him. United are in an awful state.

We did this. Leicester City did this to the biggest and wealthiest club in the land.

In fairness, he did that a lot of Leicester. He’d get the ball; dither, take lots of touches and waltz up the pitch only to pass it chilwell when ideally he’d receive it and pass it straight to the left back ASAP. Cags rarely takes more than a couple of touches before passing it forward, just seems to have more urgency.

They have zero midfield, no 9, the rest of their defence is bollocks and the coach doesn't have a clue.

Besides that what's the real problem?

Making Maguire the scapegoat is the cheap and easy option. Pogba's allegedly out "injured" for "3 to 4 weeks" and needs to undergo "surgery, as suggested by his people" (quotes Solskjaer), coincidentally the length of the January transfer window.

Maguire had little to no options in midfield, Arsenal closed down neatly, putting the opposition under pressure.

That players tend to make more mistakes under these circumstances is only natural. The video doesn't show that, how cute.

They have a great attacking duo, but the rest of the team is either not good enough yet, too lightweight, too old or too inexperienced/young still.

I also don't see the manager stamping his style onto the team.

What they need is patience and time in order for the pieces to click, two things most Manchester United fans don't have (anymore), as they grew up chasing after title after title, silverware aplenty. They are spoilt. You're not going to get that progress in the space of just a few months.

I'll say it again are they so thick and shortsighted they don't see they caused the £80m transfer fee, do they not realise with every single transfer they and the other big clubs make they are raising the bar in terms of high transfer fees?

The days of throwing money at it are long gone, it might help but its certainly not the answer anymore, gotta be abit more savvy and intellegent.

I'll say this again aswell, other than financially (And who am I to judge - he's richer than i'll ever be although he'd be that even if he stayed at Leicester or 'even' Hull however) why would any player with any credibilty and worth their salt go to Manchester United in their current state.

Bet half of these were buzzing when he signed as well, he was almost universally regarded as a good signing they overpaid for. Loads of "I told you so" going on there.

I would suggest that they are never going to make that progress under Solskjaer. He was a very poor appointment  and will be lucky to finish the season.Having said that Man united have been in terminal decline since the day Ferguson packed it in.

They are years behind the likes of Liverpool and Man city in all departments and top players would not choose them over both of those sides when it comes to transfers. I've no particular beef with Man united but I do think it's refreshing for the game as a whole to see the likes of them in the doldrums. I never thought I would see the day that Leicester city had a better team than them and finish above them but it looks like we are going to do it again this season. The king is dead long live the king !

To be honest most of us love it, they lorded it over the 1st 20 years of the Prem, take your hat off to Fergie even more (grudgingly) as he did it with at least 3 teams, they are 5 years away from another title, will do them some good to understand what most other teams go through.  Man C & Liverpool are light years ahead of them.  Back to the 80's when Sexton, Big Ron and Fergie's 1st years saw lots spent and little won.:D

He's slow, and got a mistake in him. Both weaknesses were always going to be exposed more under scrutiny and limelight as the worlds most expensive defender. Couple that with playing his trade at a farcical fallen giant with a manager way out of his depth and it's obvious.

We all saw the warning signs with Maguire last season, his first year with us he looked progressive and a real maverick and unusual player. Sadly, the weaknesses that are there get exposed quite easily and he was never ever worth the outlay. I could honestly see him transferring again in a season or two for a third of what Utd have paid for him. It's magical.

yep its a mess there currently and as I said 5 years from the title, go there and you're going for the money, unless they show a consistent uplift in form which they haven't since Alex left.  Lot of talk of Maddison maybe going there, the only reason would be money, we will play CL, they might not play Europa.  They won't win a trophy, we have a seriously exciting team that is probably real fun to play in with a great team ethic.

Maguire is just an average defender, the media circus hasn't helped him one bit.

I still love the quip that the club trousered £80 million quid and improved the defence by selling him!

good. but sadly knocky couldn’t even get regular games for them in the end  that’s why he’s ended up playing in the championship for Fulham.

Because he did more than a job for us.

And don't forget Mahrez was not yet on the scene..and also took time after his signing,to become a crowd favourite..

Well if we are talking about players who more than did a job for us over the last ten years then there should be twenty or so players on that list..

EIGHTY MILLION POUNDS.

For that price we signed Jonny Evans, Caglar Soyuncu, James Maddison and Youri Tielemans.

Our title winning defence cost £6m...

Maguire looked like one of our better players under Puel, but perhaps the slower pace we often played at suited his game.

We have a better squad than Man Utd so perhaps he'd look better if he were still here. But, Soyuncu looks much more dynamic, he's pacier, and appears to be more quick-thinking and so suits the way BR wants to play a lot more.

Maguire's deficiencies aside, he's still a good centre-back. I'd rather have him over Keane, Stones, Jones, and Tarkowski in England's defence, for example.
