If we can get him a season-long loan to a good Championship side with promotion hopes then that would be ideal for all parties, I think. And then sell either back to his loan club or to a lower-half prem side like Brighton, Huddersfield or Wolves :ph34r:. He's a good player but circumstances havent quite worked out for him since the great escape season, and he deserves a shot somewhere that can give him the minutes his ability warrants. We've moved on as a club so much since he last played for us consistently and Puel is starting to build his vision, and I'm not sure James fits into that.

Fair point on Hamza being ahead of James. I said in my first post if you are playing 2 CDM then you need at least 3 in the squad, but really you need 4 especially with Mendy’s injury record and suspensions always likely playing that role relying on just Hamza to cover is not wise, he could flourish but if he struggles then we have to change how we play. Keeping James around and getting him fit will be of bigger benefit than loaning/selling him or we could end up trying to crowbar Iborra and Silva into an unfamiliar role. It does beg the question what do we do with Silva and Iborra, but that is for another thread.

He's got a long contract and is presumably on decent money, doubt we'll be able to sell him unless a lower ranking premier league club wants him. 

He'll probably be here until he fulfils his contract.

Send him on loan for a season with a view to a permanent move, we can always get a replacement. He needs a run of games playing regularly and he's the first player (most times) that the fans get at especially if he doesn't impress.

He's 27 and has only played 144 games in his career. It's a shame that his injuries came at such a pivotal point in his career, as I guess we'll never know if he really could make the step up to Premier League level. It's really important to bare in mind that there were many games in during the season we went up and the great escape that James outperformed Drinkwater (certainly begging the question as to how he would have fared next to Kante). In any case, hopefully if he regains fitness, goes out on loan and performs well; one of the championship big spenders will go in for him for a couple of million.

Think you've nailed it there particularly when there are also those, me included, that would gives Hamza another chance over them. At their age in the Premiership, they're going to have to improve their game pretty quickly but can't see them getting the chance, barring injury and cups over Ndidi or Mendy (if Saturday wasn't a one off).

Just not good enough doesn't really offer a lot and never really has had a lot to his game, Championship level at best.

He's had some good games for us including last season before his injury. 

 

When fit, I honestly rate him ahead of both Iborra and Silva who both look lethargic and unable to cope with pace of the premier league. 

 

When we get him fit, i want to see him challenging for a place in the squad.

This is such a lazy 1 dimensional veiw of the situation. The decision to give him a new deal was a stone cold business one. He had played over 20, 90 minute games for Barnsley on loan in the grueling championship (Tuesday, Saturday, Tuesday, Saturday) then been our best player in pre season this proving doubts about his fitness. 

 

The club didn't want to lose a highly rated proven premiership quality player (for a bottom half side) on the cheap so moved to secure their investment. Like all business decisions there is an element of risk and this has not panned out due to new injurys but the decision at the time was pretty sensible.

I remember watching Chelsea away last season and for me he was motm, outstanding performance. He's better than what some people think, but it's just sad that he's been dogged by injury often.
