Maguire to Man Utd / Man City

The timing is appalling and I'm now significantly less confident in our chances of achieving something special this season. Hope we've got someone lined up, or Soyuncu cuts out the brainfarts.

Fair play to the club for setting a price and sticking with it though.

This is the only frustration for me. Let’s hope one of our young boys can step up like it was no doubt planned last Summer.

Pros:

Huge fee

Gets rid of someone who doesn’t want to be here

He isn’t our best defender, lots of hype because he can bring the ball out, poor positioning

Cons:

It’s late in the window

Uncertainty if one of the newer boys can step up

He was a stalwart in the team and dressing room

People are pleased with the fee. Not his departure. The departure was difficult to block I imagine. :(

Happy with the deal. £85million is crazy money.

So am I, especially seeing as Dunk followed Leicester Instagram then quickly removed it on the same day as Maguires transfer was going through. Bit of a coincidence.

We've just made harry Maguire the 9th most expensive player in history, most expensive defender. It's a pretty good deal.

It's the fee. I think most people accepted last season that he was going to go, but to get a fee like that is the great bit. Sad to see him go as I think he could have really gone places here, but you can't argue that the club have let him go easily.

Great player and it will weaken our cb department  without a doubt. However we have technically spent nothing for youri, perez and Justin. Think of it as just over two youris, it will make you feel better about it.

affects the position in the league imo. important player to have and scored some important goals. suppose people will realise when the season has started.

It's a shame to see one of our better players go but it represents an enormously good piece of business (as long as we don't immediately go waste 50 on Dunk) which is probably our short and mid term future.

Signing players and selling them on for big profit is what we're likely to do for a while. People need to square that away with themselves and get used to it now.

Sure - the fee is fantastic and our stoicism is applaudable - but it's disingenuous to compare it to other transfers - especially stuff like Ronaldo and Pogba - because fees move on all the time. And we've lost our best defender, our only real threat at set pieces, our only defender who can bring it out from the back, gain territory and link the defence to the midfield. And strengthened a direct rival. Annnnnnnd we're only going to have to spend half of it on a sub par replacement. We've just diddled Man Utd, now let's watch Burnley/Brighton do the same to us.

It's a great deal for us but we'll definitely miss him more than anyone seems willing to admit. Cant wait for Wes and Evans against wolves...

Cue razor blade at the ready

Very sad in one way but our owners and Rodgers must be ok with it. It gives us more spending power but whether we've anything lined up who knows. I like Dunk but 50m would not be worth selling Maguire for. Praet is underwhelming for me also but admittedly only know what I've read and trust the club would by far know best. We'll just have to wait and see.
