coolhandfox Posted 10 July 2020 Posted 10 July 2020 I don't think it a any more then unconscious bias, which lead to some discussions go for against and for certain teams and players. To be fair when we won the league we had the most penalties that season 13 (10 scored, missed 3), Man Utd had 3 that season. This year we sit 3rd in the table with 7 (5 scored, missed 2), Man U have had 13 (9 scored, missed 4)

Slow motion, multiple replays, etc. And they STILL get stuff wrong. Hopefully next season will be better as FIFA have told Mike Riley to get stuffed and they will now oversee the VAR implementation in all leagues, including less microscopic offside calls and refs using monitors more. Let's just hope that is a turning point for it. Yeah the millimetres offside decisions are my biggest bug bear. Even when we benefit from the decisions. It's not in the spirit of the game and is not what the offside law was intended for. If players are standing virtually side by side, the attacker should get the benefit of the doubt.
ARTY_FOX Posted 10 July 2020 Posted 10 July 2020 Just seen the penalty from last night and its probably the worst decision I've ever seen. He literally jumps on the defenders leg dangerously if anything. Then Fernandes has the cheek to roll round holding his ankle in agony (obviously that was brushed aside) 1
Fox in the North Posted 10 July 2020 Posted 10 July 2020 Reckon if that had been a Villa player who won a penalty like it last night, VAR would have checked it for at least 3 times as long, eventually ruled out and the player would have been labelled as disgraceful, not clever.

There's been too many recently and its really starting to kill my love for the game. Spot on, I've said it before and i'll say it again. Thinking there is a large scale conspiracy is absurd, but thinking there isn't ANY form of corruption is just as absurd. 1

The biggest problem is incompetence , our referees are not held in high regard around the world with good reason.

Ultimately professional football is a spectacle (both at the game and on TV) that will be slowed down by any attempt to use technology to check decisions. And given the choice of marginally more correct refereeing or a quicker game with worse decisions I’d still rather have the latter. I take your point on this. I was very pro var at the beginning, but my god the way they've implemented it is killing the fun of the game (e.g. Time it takes, disallowing goals for mm offside). I still think there's a place for it. It takes a min or so for the teams to line up after a goal is scored. That should be long enough for var to check howling offside errors and the like. We coukd use it to make better decisions without having to slow the game - it just requires a less forensic use of it.

A few more weeks with Pogba and co will see to that of course.

orangecity23 Posted 10 July 2020 Posted 10 July 2020 (edited) Jon Moss is a very strange referee. The first game I remember him reffing was our 2-2 draw with Forest at the City Ground, and hands down, might be the worst refereeing performance in the history of football. We were 2-0 up, and in the space of a few minutes, Moss set about completely changing the game. He gave a handball penalty against Matt Mills, when Mills was on the floor, trying to get up, with his hand pushing himself off the ground, when a Forest player kicked the ball against his armthat was supporting his body weight. No deliberate motion towards the ball, no way for the defender to avoid it. He booked Kasper for complaining about his appalling decision, and after they scored, Forest were trying to pick the ball up and carry it back to the half way line. Kasper picked it up and kicked it there himself. Moss booked him again and sent him off - for "timewasting" - when a) It was our kick off b) He kicked the ball to exactly where it needed to be. To top it off, when the match reports came out in the media, they tried to hand wave it away claiming he'd kicked it into the crowd, clearly showing they hadn't even watched the game at all. Over the years, Moss has pulled performances like that game and last night out of the bag again and again, so you'd be forgiven for thinking he has no idea what he's doing, but then he has games like our game vs Palace last week where nothing out of the ordinary happens and he's perfectly fine. Then you'll get a game like Us Vs West Ham in the title winning season, where he basically does everything within his power to try to **** up the title race. It's like he sets out to some games and says, "tonights going to be all about me". It says a lot about PGMOL and the FA that they allow him to do this, and seem to regard him as one of their best officials, when he has a history of giving completely inexplicable calls and ruining matches. All refs are equally as bad. We don't have a standout referee anymore. Clattenburg was the best and he left. Oliver was then the best for me but now he's just as bad. Moss isn't the worse though; Craig Pawson and Lee Mason are much worse. Graeme Scott, who did Var for the Villa game yesterday, is the one to blame not Moss. He should have overruled. It's for Man Utd though so they dare not. Do Villa get a penalty for that at Old Trafford? No way.
