whoareyaaa Posted 11 August 2019 Posted 11 August 2019 at least we got a point, Soy was very impressive probably even an upgrade on Maguire didn't create that many clear cut chances but Wolves where happy to sit back. should be a completely different tempo against Chelsea which is probably suited to our players as there will be more space.
don_danbury Posted 11 August 2019 Posted 11 August 2019 andre marriner is probably the best ref in the league. superb performance
Guest Manini Posted 11 August 2019 Posted 11 August 2019 I said mid-week I’d have taken a point and that’s what we got. Wolves are a good side, we’re in a bit of transition. I think if people are expecting us to just flick the switch and start playing this liquid Brendan Rodgers football straight away you’re in for a bit of a shock. It’ll take time, but already think we look a much better team to this time last year. Evans and Soyuncu were class today.
Riot Van Posted 11 August 2019 Posted 11 August 2019 Didn’t look like we’d score ever in that game. Perez and Maddison were terrible.

Its defensively where he's any good now, the rest is nowhere near good enough. Absolutely. I remember in the first half of last season in particular where he was still unknown and often had the freedom of the left flank, only to waste the opportunity over and over again. You'd think with Fuchs at the club that he'd teach him a thing or two.
vanity Posted 11 August 2019 Posted 11 August 2019 The failure here was strategic. Look, if we are going to play a 433 with Perez and Maddison up front, it wrecks our spacing, bc the opposing side can generally focus on defending the middle. Obviously Ayoze cuts inside rather than playing a more traditional wing, and Maddison (a) is playing out of position on the outside and (b) doesn't try to get around the corner himself, being more comfortable on the ball closer to the middle of the pitch. So that is the first problem. Our formation was constantly spaced to narrow, looking like: X X X X X X X X X X This not only made us easy to defend, allowing Wolves to congest the center of the park, but denied Vards room to maneuver. Second, this left Tiels as the only real creative force on the side. Wolves focused on shutting down our ONE creative player, and it was effective. When we finally went offensive w Barnes, the difference was night and day. We need to remember this in the future and keep two AMs behind our attacking 3.

Mike Oxlong Posted 11 August 2019 Posted 11 August 2019 Lacklustre performance Time for Puel to go now
matty98 Posted 11 August 2019 Posted 11 August 2019 What we've learnt today: Maddison shouldn't ever play out wide, it's a complete waste, he's a central player. Don't play 2 defensive midfielders at home. Move the ball quicker. Soyuncu is good enough.
eddylcfc Posted 11 August 2019 Posted 11 August 2019 Soyuncu and Ricky P the only positives. Can’t help but feel our away form will eclipse that of the home. Wouldnt be surprised to see us go and beat Chelsea fairly comfortably next week. UTF
Nicolo Barella Posted 11 August 2019 Posted 11 August 2019 Maddison shouldn't start that far up the pitch imo. The "double free 8" thing we had last season with Tielemans and Maddison was much better, they both had more time on the ball because neither could be marked out the game. Please start Barnes!
fuchsntf Posted 11 August 2019 Posted 11 August 2019 Just a word about Harry!!!! Sky Reporter interviewed him before the Match about, better attacking options and more midfield support... Harry Stopped him dead in his tracks...Told him No!!! Leicester last season played on the front foot, especially when BRodegers came... Shot him down in flames...!!

We've apparently been in transition since we've won the league. We may very well improve, individually and as a team with additions but we aren't really in transition, this has to be the year to show what we're capable of.

Of course some will have to moan as with Soyuncu stepping up and having a good game they need to find something else to moan about We set up to stifle ourselves.
lifted*fox Posted 11 August 2019 Posted 11 August 2019 lmao at the OTT reactions from some people on here, as always. first game of the season, still blowing out the cobwebs, against a team who are going to be up there with us this season. we absolutely dominated the game aside from the first 10 minutes of the second half. we created plenty of chances and failed to take them. we looked defensively solid and soyuncu was everywhere, stopping everything. people complaining about 2 DMs - we broke up all of their attacks almost immediately and effectively bar one or two and looked to turned defence into attack. a positive start to build on - we looked very keen to get forward and comfortable in possession. jesus, it's going to be a long season with people already looking to blame, point fingers, etc. give it a rest ffs.

You could argue that you’re in transition every time you get rid of a manager and replace him with somebody else.

Guest Mee-9 Posted 11 August 2019 Posted 11 August 2019 Chilwell and Maddison looked like they'd just spent 8 weeks in the Love Island villa.

sm1 Posted 11 August 2019 Posted 11 August 2019 We seemed to have a really negative outlook. There were too many times in the game where we had Ndidi, YT, Perez and Hamza all hovering around the half way line. In theory we played a 443, but in reality it was more like a 451.
STUHILL Posted 11 August 2019 Posted 11 August 2019 I thought Rodgers got the set-up wrong from the start. There was little sense to play N'didi and Choudary together. It didn't help us defensively as both seemed to push to high up and also didn't help us in attack, as both are not comfortable or capable with the creative side of things. It also meant that Tielemans was pushed too high up and so we didn't have a play maker to pick the ball up deep and pull some strings, hence why many of our plays were easily broken down by a poor pass or taking too long. We also, had very little width from the attacking players and so Wolves just funnelled us into a congested area in the middle and easily broke up the play. Once Rodgers brought on Barnes and Albrighton, that quickly changed and we were able to stretch the game and create spaces. It was all a little late though and Wolves by then had started to settle for the draw and dropped even deeper. Rodgers can't start with both N'didi and Choudary again. Hopefully Praet will be the answer, although I still think we need Barnes to start and give us that width and threat on the left. Of course it didn't help today that Chilwell really didn't have a good game and Maddison was far too wasteful. Tielemans also huffed and puffed but you also have to give huge credit to Wolves who were so well organised and did a great job of congesting the spaces and snuffing out any attacks. They also killed us on the break and luckily maybe due to tiredness or Rodgers tweaking some things, we managed to handle that better in the final 30 minutes. Ricardo again was great and really tried his best against a very impressive Wolves defence. Also, special mention to Soyuncu who had to deal with a number of attacks where he and Evans were left exposed, and he dealt with them very well and you have to say, looks like he could be a top player! N'didi was good but again is limited to what he can do and should just be given the job of shielding the back 4. Too many times he was caught far too high up the pitch. Wolves did a great job of not allowing Vardy any space and so not sure what else he could have done. Games like this really make me wish we had a different type of striker, to throw on in the last 10-15 and win some flick ons or be a real threat from corners etc. All in all, two very good teams which will definitely be there or thereabouts for 7th this season. I think whereas Santo got his formation, tactics spot on, Rodgers made errors today, but they are easily fixable and I expect Chilwell and Maddison to have more good days than bad, so I expect us to get better and better as Rodgers fine tunes and these younger players find some consistency. 0-0 fair result and perhaps we were fortunate in some respects but certainly not a bad showing from us either. 7th is really going to be a tough battle this season though, but bring it on!!

But you understand what I’m saying don’t you? I think a lot people put too much expectation on preseason, thinking that those 6 weeks Rodgers had with them was going to fix all the issues, it doesn’t work like that. I wouldn’t be worried if we still haven’t fully clicked by Christmas, I think it’s a long term plan with what he wants to do here.
