Wes Morgan on course for 10th season with club as contract talks 'ongoing'

Wes was solid and didnt really put a foot wrong but Sheffield didn't offer a massive amount and they aren't blessed with pace. Man U and even Tottenham will be a totally different kettle of fish for him if he does start.

That might be the single best performance I can remember from him. Won pretty much every ball he went for, made one or two crucial blocks and was stroking the ball around like an absolute artist.

When he came out yesterday it reminded me of the Gary Taylor Fletcher pic.  He did well mind.  I think there’s a role for him against that type of side.  The physical championship promoted teams suit him.  Not sure the next two games are ideal though.

Excellent yesterday. Still boss against more physical, hard working sides. More fluid teams (e.g. Spurs, Man Utd) might be a little different.

The young lad Thomas is going to take a lot away from lining up beside Wes in his first game for the club.

Aside from the composure and desire we all know Captain Morgan possesses, how good must it be to have the man who led the team to Premier League glory marshalling you in your first taste of 'proper' football? :scarf:

Luke Thomas was still in nappies when Wes played his first professional games.  18 years later they're both playing in a team chasing Champions League football. Let that sink in.

Wrong thread.

The Wilf comment? Not entirely - but the thought of losing Wes before the Man U game gives me the fear.

Probably the best shot blocker i've seen in the premier league...he anticipates  quicker than anyone else...saw him do this at least twice against Sheff Utd..

believe in the old adage "the first yard is in your head"

Awesome news. We’ve had a few ex players take up coaching roles but never have they continued onto the management route. I really thought Taggart would go onto manage after his caretaker spell here. It’s always difficult to know who would/would not be a good manager, however, Wes comes across as one who could make the step up. He seems like someone that his peers respect but also willing to listen to those around him. The £1million signing from Forest to “back up” the CB’s we had at the time and ended becoming a living legend at this club.

Great news that. Probably about the best thing to happen in 2020.he has all the makings of being a great coach and sure he will make the transition like Kolo has.

If true then this is very astute and well deserved.

Wes is a quiet unassuming character but an unbelievable character in the dressing whilst a great example of using all the talent he was born with to make a very special footballer.

Over the years the club has had examples like Wes but never utilised them whereas he epitomises all that is good about our club and owners.

I never cease to be continually impressed by the way our owners do the right thing. So many clubs are poorly ran and we are so lucky.

Be great to see Wes involved for the next 10 years hopefully as a coach - what an inspiration but also he knows the values of LCFC!

The new Kolo Toure!

Wonder if long term he fancies a stab at management, or would prefer to be a coach. 5 years ago someone like Wes might even have been given a chance to manage this club as their first job, but now that our stock has risen so much I'd expect that even he would have to prove himself somewhere else first. That said Juventus just gave Andrea Pirlo the job with no experience so you never know!

His undr the cosh interview is particularly interesting at the point where he mentions he feels he has struggled to get work post us and Oldham.
