Why are people bring so upset that he is versatile? JJ plays LB, RB WING BACK AND CB.

Ricardo plays LB, RB, RW, WING BACK

Relax everybody

It's the FT thing to criticise/be negative/panic before any other emotion.

In our position, versatility will be crucial as long as they decent in all of their positions. Would prefer a fully fledged left back though, but if this guy, Justin and Fuchs when fit can do a job then hopefully we can use bigger money in other positions.

We are so ****ing massive now that we need a superstar in every position. The idea that we are potentially adding an experience player who has versatility and can play in a number of positions is just not good enough apparently. Despite many teams similar or slightly larger then us doing the same, is just not good enough. We should be competing with Chelsea and Real Madrid don’t you know.

Yeah it's like Man Utd fans saying Van De Beek is only signing to sit on the bench behind Pogba and Fernandes. Quite clearly won't be true and if anything maybe they're future-proofing for when/if Pogba leaves or just knowing that with so many games this season he will be needed and will play.

Some fans just won't ever be fully pleased regardless who we sign. Even if Messi came here some fans would moan saying 'actually, think we need someone more right footed to play when going forward'

"We need more height" would almost certainly be a complaint too. You just know it.

Doesn’t track back or do any defensive work...

Messi is getting on a bit to be fair.

you would think that the owners would recognise the exceptional circumstances at the moment and make up the difference to help - if they were able to .....

Massive gamble given the uncertainty over when we would be able to recoup any overspend.

the only clubs doing any business right now are City - we all know about their bankrolling, and Chelsea whose transfer ban has actually been a blessing for them giving them a big stack of cash to spend in a buyers market.

We will make signings, just don’t Ben expecting £100m of money that we don’t have.

That’s not true though is it

they're the only clubs spending 75m+ but nearly all other clubs have done business and some have done around 50m of nett purchases thus far

it will be a quieter window than usual - that’s for sure

Rob Holding off to Newcastle by the looks of it.

Would have liked us to try and get him in, but I doubt Arsenal would want to make us stronger.

He would make us weaker. ;)

I’ve looked through the list and most have bought in frees or lower league players. Barely anything registers as a signing anyone on here would be even remotely pleased about outside the big clubs.

Nobody is upset at versatility to an extent. It's good that players can fill in when we're desperate.

But...

Ricardo is a right back.

Justin is a right back.

Castagne is a right back.

Our only left back is Christian Fuchs.

We paid 30m last summer for a second striker/attacking midfielder in Perez because "oh he can play out wide if we need him to". Why aren't we making purchases that fill the holes we have in the team? No team has ever had long term success by filling square hole with round players.

If we're so worried about versatility then why don't we go and sign a left back that can also play on the wing given they're the two slots in our side where we have virtually no cover whatsoever.

Overpaying for an right back that doesn't improve us makes absolutely **** all sense when we're supposedly short of cash and when we're absolutely desperate for a left back and a winger. I appreciate that some on here are giddy that we might look like we're out to buy someone but on the face of it this is a transfer that we shouldn't be making. Concentrate resources on the task in hand - replacing Chilwell.

Nail on the head! Couldn’t agree more.

You are making a huge assumption on style of play, formation and what we want from a player, preferred  foot is only one consideration.
