Spurs are historically a big club, but performance wise they were really a mid table team until they sold Bale, Modric etc. and invested that money well in Eriksen, Lamela, Lloris, Alli, etc.., and at the same time the emergence in their academy of prospects such as Kane, Walker, Dier, etc.

We aren't far away imo, as we've sold Mahrez, Maguire, Chilwell for big money and we've probably improved our squad from each sale. I think we need to build a team that is consistent enough to finish top 6/7 over the next few years to be classed in the same bracket as Spurs, but it's not out of reach by any stretch of the imagination.

They signed Walker and Dier. Kane is their only top class academy graduate. Walker-Peters, Winks, Mason are the best they have produced in recent years.

For the captain to publicly criticise the clubs player sales doesn't bode well for West Ham.

I like Mark Noble. One of my favourite non LCFC players.

Fair play to him for coming out with the truth instead of the usual nonsense, albeit he is a West Ham fan so obviously cares for them.

Rodgers isn't as good a manager as Poch though. I still think Pochettino overachieved with the squad he had, compared to the sides around him (apart from 2016 obviously).

Hahaha totally wrong. They were a mid table club in the prem until Harry Redknapp signed the likes of Defoe, Modric and Bale became a mega star. He got them top 4 with Crouchs famous goal. When they sold Bale they largely flopped, Soldado and Lamela and others were a waste. Pochettino was a step above Harry and took them to the level where we regard them as a big club today. A great manager makes all the difference.

They spent a load on Soldado as well if I remember. Didn't exactly rip the place up. Decent player but didn't really score goals - bit of a drawback for a striker if you're being picky...

On the pitch that’s feasible but off it ...... we will never be their size in my lifetime  ......

That Man Utd effort looks like the Razzle ships from WW1 - used to break up outlines to make them difficult to target.

Not sure it's a great idea for a football team...

Wow. I had never heard of this - thanks. Worth ploughing through the Stuff about Man U and their assembled idiots to learn something of interest !

We really ought to see if we can get any of Chelsea's young British players now they have turned their back on the very players that helped them achieve top 4 again. Tomori or Abraham would be great, Loftus-Cheek if he stays fit would strengthen our midfield too but not sure that's a priority.

Abrahams all day long - Not a fan of Tomori particularly and though Loftus Cheek would strengthen us I’d rather we spent on a class wide forward.

Robbie Savage has predicted we will be 10th next year and need to get real.

Wolves will be top 6.

Spurs will drop a place to 7th.

Man U will be runners up. The Donny signing apparently closes the 30 odd point gap between them and Liverpool/Man C.

Man C - will drop to 4th after being many points away from challengers for the last two years.

Everyone entitled to an opinion. However, Robbie really is like Diarrhoea, no one likes him.

Interesting point, I wonder if this has been tested against a backdrop of a crowd. Wasn’t it Man U that had to change their strip in the 2nd half of a match before, can’t remember which strip it was, Greyish maybe?, as it merged with the crowd.

Yeah his logic for Man Utd doesn't apply for Man City. Man Utd were miles away from top 2 but suddenly they'll be good enough to leapfrog one of them. Meanwhile one of those top 2 that got closer to Liverpool than anyone else seemingly aren't even good enough for 3rd!

Wolves I can see why he's gone for top 6 - with the congested schedule for clubs in Europe it's a good chance for them to take advantage.

That’s what I thought. There was really no reasoning to any of his predictions. He has Saints 9th. He has Newcastle 17th. It’s the most muddle up set of predictions.

He's a funny one. I did a legends stadium tour a while back, and Matt Elliott really didn't leave any doubt of his thoughts on Robbie Savage...

Yeah - think it was Southampton at the Dell. Players complained they couldn't pick each other out and Fergie changed it at half-time. That's why it's so weird they've gone for another kind of camouflage thing - you'd think they'd have learned their lesson...

I always assume that he's saying something controversial or different because that's what he's paid for, a balanced analytical assessment isn't what his employers are looking to him for. Although, I'm assuming from your comment that this may not be the case and he might really just be a kn@b.

Look, I can’t imagine Robbie’s spent more than 30 minutes coming up with his predictions.

He’ll have picked a club and gone with whatever position came to mind - and filled in the gaps with the few clubs he had left.

Yet, regardless of what you think of his actual predictions, what he’s produced meets the key requirements of what he’s been asked to do.

That’s because these things aren’t meant to be proven to be right at the end of the season - they’re supposed to get page views and comments.

So the fact you’ve commented about in such detail shows his have worked - and why Savage is viewed as an effective pundit by TV/radio companies.
