We ought to be trying to recruit 17/18 year old players from Portugal if this bloke is as talented at unearthing players as believed. Get some real quality in the U23's pushing the first team.

Our big issue here is the cultural shock of moving players over here at 17, which could slow their development, similar to Kaputska. We'd need to have a few Portugese speaking players to smooth the transition to England.

But you're right, if this Jose Fontes is as good as suggestes, we need to be taking a few risks on his suggestions.

Got Sidnei Tavares in our U23's and Ricky P is literally the don of all Portuguese don's. Although we might need to start playing Tavares to encourage him to be positive about being in Leicester's academy as he probably hates it.

We already have a player like that in Sidnei Tavares. Unfortunately, he won’t get a chance in the first team and he refuses to go on loan as Leicester will only allow it if he agrees a new contract. I think he will leave Leicester as he believes he is good enough to get into a first team squad at another top flight division in Europe. He was probably one of Portugal’s most stand out players for their U18 squad.

But you are right. Portugal have some unbelievably talented players at that age and a lot of them go under the radar.

Is he as good as people suggest, or is it the classic young player hype?

He’s definitely a good player. He looks a different class sometimes to the rest of our academy players. He’s played well at u18 level for his national team too but it’s hard to make a judgement until he gets a chance with us or on loan.

He seems to believe his own hype a lot though and if you remember about this time last year his agents were pushing articles about PSG wanting him etc...

Problem is we seem to wait until players are around the age of 20 then loaning them out before we potentially consider if he will be playing/training with the first team. Josh Knight, Kieran DH, Barnes, Chilwell, Hamza are the first players that come to mind. Evidence suggests that this formula works for us. However, I get the vibe that Tavares thinks he’s good enough for the step up now, at the age of 18. There’s plenty of players that have done that at his age for other clubs with a few turning out to be absolute gems. I just don’t think we are prepared to give him that chance and would much rather he followed the formula. I think players like Gyamfi chose to reject a new contract for similar reasons.

Translation:

Francisco Trincão signed a contract valid in January with Barcelona until 2025, but Leicester is doing everything to integrate him in his main team in the coming weeks.

There are constant meetings taking place between the Spanish and English leaders, with the most likely scenario on the table being a loan (possibly from two seasons) with an option to buy the Foxes in the amount of 45 million euros. It is recalled that Barcelona invested 31 million in the acquisition of Trincão.

Trincão was identified by the Senior Scout of Leicester, José Fontes, long before making his debut in the main team of Sp. Braga and is already an old courtship of the Foxes, a club where the Portuguese also Ricardo Pereira is active.

Speaking of Ricardo Pereira, it is important to add that the Portuguese international was another of the athletes identified by José Fontes for Leicester, similar to midfielder James Maddison (2018, from Norwich) and Turkish defender Çaglar Soyuncu (2018, Friburgo), from according to what was mentioned in several British newspapers.

In early 2020, Barcelona got ahead and grabbed Trincão. Despite the recent praise from President Josep Bartomeu , the situation of the leftist in Barcelona is highly dependent on the options taken for the team's technical command.

Quique Setién is far from unanimous and the eventual arrival of a new coach after the Champions League leaves everything open for the Portuguese under-21 international. Leicester seeks to capitalize on these questions and guarantee one of the most exciting products of the 1999 generation.

On Leicester's side, the decision is made: Trincão is for grabbing. On the Barcelona side, as we explained, nobody really knows what to do with the athlete.

That’s a very basic way to view transitioning a player to a different way of life.

Granted, having a compatriot or two I’m the squad could be helpful.

But it could also prove a hinderance - if that player ends up relying on just those players and fails to build relationships across the squad.

In practice, a top level professional club will have a lot more it can do to help a player settle into a new country than just dumping players on a teammate that ‘speaks their lingo’.
