I think back to Strider’s comments about our team being too nice. Our academy—full of local lads—isn’t going to provide this menace. Barnes and Thomas are mild-mannered, and even Hamza’s occasional flourish of career-ending tackles come from an apologetic and well-meaning heart. Even our star defensive midfielder—a man now studying here—is the kind of man who’d escort your elderly gran across a busy road on the way to church. Was gave us that menace. Wes and Huth too. And Vardy. And they’re all gone or in their twilight, leaving a gaping hole, which Soyuncu can only partly fill. We need another Turk, and another brick shithouse and from what I can tell, he’s both. In our league win, we imported two guys from France to run rings around the league. In our Europa campaign we need the Turkish wall to bully and harass attackers throughout Europe. When Barnes is peacefully floating balls over the post after braving battling his way into a superb position, what better way to calm the nerves than to know their attackers are trying to astral project themselves away from Soyuncu and friend’s unsettlingly friendly grins?
