I think it's a smart decision, with European games and the rammed schedule due to Coronavirus, we will need players to step in, and Mendy always does a solid if not spectacular job. And probably saves us 18m+ to get a replacement in too.

Good news IMO. We don't have the funds to splash on backup CMs at the minute, plus we'll have 50 games in 9 months, so need bodies. Additionally I don't think he would have signed for just one year, so we didn't have much of a choice really.

Would prefer to see Choudhury and Dewsbury-Hall get the chance to be honest. I'd have preferred to re-sign Kingy, at least he offers goal scoring abilities. 

 

Mendy has had plenty of chances and has been shown to be too lightweight and easily dispossessed. 

 

Squad player at best, I suppose useful for depth. I'd expect him to be way down the pecking order though, behind the players mentioned above and even James.

solid dependable player. Knows his role at the club. Satisfied with that, and certainly better than shelling out €25m on someone only slightly better and not really needed
