Transfer targets 2020/21

My January wish list:

9:  Abdallah Sima, Slavia Praha:  19 year-old Senegalese center forward.  Tall and lanky, strong in the air, speedy.  Has an awkward gait - not like Haaland, but different.  Wriggles out of what seem like certain tackles.  Had a few excellent performances in the Europa League.  Obviously not Vardy, but I noticed Vardy-like movements and runs from him.
10:  Romain Faivre, Brest:  22 year-old French attacking midfielder.  Left-footed, free-kick merchant.  Over 2 key passes per match.  But covers well and is physical when he has to be.  More physical, left-footed version of Mads?
5:  Sven Botman, Lille:  20 year-old Dutch left-footed central defender.  Mountain of a young man at the same size as Van Dijk but he moves very well.  Ajax cut him loose and he's been a force for Lille so far.

Not certain what to do about the wings, because I'm still not certain what our manager needs out of his wings based on whichever system he's playing.  But get these three in and you've got a Vardy understudy, more attacking intent to break down blocks in the midfield, and another young monstrous (but left-footed!) man at the back.  Depth everywhere and a solid squad to make the run in and bolster European dreams.

Brest is looking for $14 million for Faivre .  https://www.90min.com/posts/romain-faivre-things-to-know-brest-man-utd-psg-french-transfer

I'd love to see a last minute surprise for him like Praet.

You look at United getting Bruno Fernandes this time last season and it turned the club around.

Can't help but feel we've had a massive opportunity to do the same and give the lift to seal the deal for top 4.

Dissapointing

What opportunity is that then? Are there loads of great midfielders and strikers available at knockdown prices?

So this transfer makes me feel how I felt after the Fulham, Villa, and Leeds game.

Shows a lack of ambition and that the club are happy to take a chance at getting a nice league position.

The club isn't skint the funds are there I understand about being cautious and you need to be in January but there is no point to this what so ever.

Loan out a better player in Hamza and get him in...... its just ****ing bizarre

Do we know that? Hasn't the club's income and that of one of it's main owners been ravaged by the pandemic? No one else is spending either...

There is absolutly nothing to suggest that we don't either..

The likely hood of it is that the club is still extremely wealthy but trying to be safe and smart. I understand that 💯

But this talk that the club is skint is nonsense the owners haven't put any money into the club in years because its self sufficient.

Could of got Erickson for the 4m in wages for the 6 months that would of made much more sense and a drop in the ocean.

That's it exactly. We don't have money to waste in every window. We can only afford to sign players we have a good chance of getting use out of.

The club get moaned at for signing expensive players that end up being deadwood (Slimani, Silva, Musa) and also get criticised for trying to play it smart.

Didn't we take out a stonking loan only a matter of weeks ago.

We have updated our previous loan which is now secured against TV payments up to Jan 2023 (or parachute payments were we to be relegated)

Nothing to suggest what this loan is in place for, or how much it is for either, could be we simply have it to use as an "overdraft" if we really need to

We tend to use these loans to get money in earlier than we normally would (like how we used a previous loan to get the Mahrez money earlier to use on the training ground)

Not something we want to keep using up

By us being quiet in this window...it will affect our transfer clout in the summer..

we need a body in as the depth of the squad with all the niggles we are having again isnt deep enough for the run in and Europe..

If we drop outside euro places, we won’t attract a calibre of player to help us push on next season again..

shame we couldnt from somewhere find a few quid for a midfielder/striker..

chaloboah is so Ryan Bennett...I don’t think we have learnt our lesson from

last season..

Use the $3 million from Demari and tack on $2 million more - $5 million now to Brest for Faivre - $9 million next year.  Done.

.... HELLO! ......we need a STRIKER .........NOW

Vardy probably back next week for Wolves.

It makes sense to go for Edouard in the summer after he's had another half season at Celtic, got 12 months left on his contract and Celtic will be willing sellers and Vardy is 34.5yo and any up and coming striker worth his salt will back himself to take his place within 12/18 months.

Perez and Iheanacho might not be great but both are capable of filling in for Vardy for the next 4 months.

Oh for gads sake no one asking to spend £200 million worth of signings. But £15 million? Sure why not.

Could of gotten 3-4 quality loan players for that and challenge for league, not just a top 4 finish.

Now we won't get either because we don't want to act like a big club when we have to.

Didn't learned our lesson last season and it seems we won't this year too...

Must admit i am a little surprised we aren't moving for a Striker.  Bit of a gamble that Vardy comes back next week and stays fit for a lot of games to come.

I can understand wanting a winger too, but with Albrighton good at the moment, Barnes has to be a better bet to stay fit than Vards.

maybe given the unstable world we are currently living in the people in charge have decided the risk of that approach isn’t acceptable.

Everyone else is coping fine? And if that's the case, why are we bringing anyone in at all?

We're just cheap and don't adjust accordingly to whom we're competing with.

The way he explained it suggested we couldn't at all but he may be covering.

Yea well he has said one or two things in the past that have made him look a bit foolish. A bit like stating they were confident of signing an attacking midfielder and then push for Chalobah.

Pretty happy to avoid all of the players that fit in the mold of were at a top 4 club academy, played for the england U21s, have some sort of name recognition based on the former 2 and whatever tournament they won, and are now 25 years old have done nothing of note in league football.

Yep, agree he's said one or two things like that but sounds like he was misquoted on being confident of signing an attacking midfielder. Looks like was asked about a 'midfielder' generally, although doesn't look like that's going well either!
