Southampton A Post Match Thread

Recommended Posts

Castagne very poor today. Gave away the freekick that led to the penalty. Crosses were poor. Kept passing backwards.

Vardy clearly lacking confidence at the moment.

Not sure why we kept Ndidi on when we needed some one who can hit a shot and we don’t need defenders.

Maddison a bit invisible.

Not sure why all the short corners. Most are wasteful.

Rodgers is probably happy with the “control” but I think we lack urgency and were too slow.

Not always easy playing against 10 men. It is another point. Credit Southampton

Yep, never happy when the opposition go down to 10 men and then play better. Like Spurs and Tranmere in our league cup finals

Not bother to watch the 2nd half when we didn't play the back 5 then?

Didn’t make alot of difference as we still had defensive minded players providing the width all game.

Wheres Ricardo? Why not give Under a chance? Surely better options to provide or create an opening through direct running than Albrighton, Thomas and Castagne when desperately need a goal.

We'll still finish top 4. Lets not overreact

Will we? If we play like that in our last 3 we won't get a single point. Even Newcastle will fancy their chances. We were shite for large parts against Palace and same tonight. Tiredness could be playing a part as we have played so many more games recently than Palace and Southampton but that performance was so disappointing. The goal we conceded was pathetic defending from Castagne and then stupidity from Iheanacho and then we just didn't do enough to win the game. Really poor against a poor side with nothing to play for

That was a frustrating experience, summed up by getting 1 minute and 6 seconds of the ball in play in injury time.

But you’ve got to say fair play to Southampton. A big part of the 9-0 last season was that they didn’t adapt to going down to 10 men properly and left huge spaces for us to play into. Today they were resolute defensively despite losing a man even earlier and far smarter tactically. Well done to them, I’m sure that’s helped banish a few demons - Walker-Peters and Salisu were particularly good for them.

For us there were no stand out performers other than Tielemans who once again looked like a man amongst boys. He seemed like the only one capable of passing the ball reliably. Maddison yet again was poor, he has six good weeks a season, generally the only six weeks he’s fully fit. And anybody not worried about Vardy’s form at this point is kidding themselves.

But in the cold light of day it’s going to be seen as another point closer to getting in the top 4 and that’s something we all would have jumped at at the start of the season.

Disappointing but trying to be positive, over the 2 recent games against Southampton id rather have beaten them in the fa cup semi final  and taken a draw in the league than the other way round, we can still get top 4 lads don't worry, the performances need to pick up though! Deffinately need a win against Newcastle next!

Against a decent team, a draw at this stage of the season, in our situation, would've been ok.

A 10-man Southampton, though...

A 10 man Southampton is probably harder to beat than an 11 man Southampton.

They set up to have a go and as soon as they lost their man it was always going to be difficult.

Big performers didn't show up though.

The way we performed against 10 men i honestly dont think we deserved anything. We were absolutley ****ing garbage, generally felt like the whole team had been that inspired by Fofana that they decided to fast themselves. Cant blame anyone but ourselves for that, we kept giving away stupid freekicks and letting them slow the game now and they milked it as any team would. Didnt feel for one instance in the last 10 minutes that we were going to knick that, just a complete lack of quality and composure. So so dissapointing, they are the games you have to put to bed if you want Champions league.

Really poor performance. No urgency from start to finish, aside from the bit leading to our equaliser. Frustrating that everyone bar Evans was sub-par tonight.

I'm getting quite worried about Vardy. He's looking more and more like he's been space jam'd. Weird moments where he makes odd decisions or ties himself up in knots.

Oh well, fair play Saints, you did a number on us and fought well.

On to the next game eh...

Real achievement to get a point when playing so badly. A collective horror show apart from defenders. Bearing in mind Southampton nearly scored with eleven I think we lose without the red.

But last season we would have lost. And another point closer.

Thank you. Best way to think about it. I get so angered when we lose!

It’s not the end of the world.
Can’t just expect to go away in the PL and win every time.
It’s a vital point and we’re still in a good position.

Keep the faith
