Sexy innit

Rodgers is a brilliant coach, I’ve always maintained that. He did it at Swansea, Celtic and now us. He can make teams play brilliant football! Football is entertainment and this sort of stuff is fabulously entertaining.

If it’s OK with everyone from Leeds who’s supported the team for a couple of seasons and thinks I should have a day off, Plastic Bertrand had an excellent first 45. I’m a lot less meh about him.

But José, oh dear God, he doesn’t make it easy on himself does he.

Stunning this has been but as a lot of fans dismissed how crap we'd been in the 2.5 games before today, let's not get too excited at this.

Bertrand, Perez, Ricardo all on fire tonight.

Fvcking hell!

Bertrand turning into prime Roberto Carlos

Ricardo looking near his best

Soyuncu & Little Wes delivering without the need for Gary Cahill

Perez keeping the ball more than losing it

WE’RE GONNA WIN THE LEAGUE.

We’ve definitely stepped it up tonight. Good half.

Perez did ok in that half to be fair to him.

Do I think he should make the 25 man squad probably not no. But it's good to try and get him in the shop window I guess.

Just because he had a steady 45 mins doesn't account for the other 36 games he went missing in.

But in that half he did ok

Notes so far (in self isolation and have nothing better to do):

2nd minute - aware of the movement of Maddison and Vardy, drifts in field to occupy the ten role as Madders goes AWOL

3rd minute - tracks back well, break up opposition attack

6th minute - great interception from the keeper, slides in Maddison who’s first touch is poor the

9th minute - stretches but fails to meet slightly over hit pass from Barnes, had drifted into #10 again to offer for the ball

10th minute - dribbles in field, just about finds Maddison, who moves the ball on, eventually lost by Barnes

11th minute - drops in alongside Youri to give more passing options to CBs as Villareal press high

12th minute - driving run by Bertrand, Perez is the only player in the box for him to hit, but he is bought down for a FK (he’s on front post duty, ball goes over him from the set play)

14th minute - moves infield as RP drives up, Perez move into the half space and makes room for Ricardo to run into, they try a 1-2 but their defender intercepts the return pass. Some very tidy triangles with him Riccy and Fofana follow.

17th minute - another great run into the half space and he is in behind - swings a nice looking ball in but just over the head of Vardy. Ball comes back to him, another dangerous cross in but he is offside

20th minute - trend continues that when off the ball he is drifting infield and close to Maddison and vardy, as ricardo intercepts he is making a run off the shoulder of the last defender, but the pass is blocked

21st minute - found on the edge of the box, good close control, crisp pass, finds Barnes, who passes to Maddison who is bought down for a FK (Maddison is being fouled a lot)

GENERAL NOTE - throughout the game so far, he makes quite a lot of lateral runs from the wing to and from the number 10 position, to widen and narrow the shape depending where the ball is, and where Maddison is.

24th minute - presses their winger in our defensive third, with Ricardo, who forces the ball out for a throw

25th minute - in defence he moves back in line with Youri, covering the rightmost lane

26th minute - on the break he is 2nd highest player. Poor through pass from Maddison fails to find Vardy

Very solid from him so far. Impressed.

Perez watch half time update:

Since this he’s beaten his man to get to the bye line, won nice interceptions in both the offensive and defensive thirds and nearly been played in by Youri.

Overall his general play has been very good, both on and off the ball. He is one of our more tactically aware players, reads space well. Helps that Riccy is looking back on it.

7/10 so far, easily. Particularly impressive given this only his 2nd game since the break.
