Don't get me wrong I think expected goals and expected points are stupid stats, but we outperformed our expected league position quite considerably last season:

r/soccer - Final Expected vs Actual Points Tally of the 21/22 Premier League season

Me and my son when over every league game deciding if we should/deserved to win-draw-lose… obviously it’s our own perspective, and every team could say they deserved more.

West Ham at home we should have won, wolves away likewise in our opinion. Equally Liverpool at home we really should have lost rather then winning, so we tried to be objective.

Top four

On a serious note though I think we will surprise a few, we still have some quality players and if we can play like we did in the few games and the end of last season we will be good.

The team is pretty well gelled now, everyone is fit and we actually have some really top quality players, imo we have a lot of potential rn.

We are shorter odds then Newcastle and Villa to be relegated. My expections are pretty low based on our defence last season, so chances are I’ll be pretty happy with how it ends up.

We score goals in a quantity that is very hard to do in this league, sort the rearguard out and we COULD be challenging for European places.

We could also just as easily not fix the defence and be a permanent fixture in the bottom half.

Is there a way of being less than underwhelmed? Whatever it is, that’s what I’m feeling about the coming season. Not dread, just a resignation.

So I’m looking forward to absolutely anything that will ignite a spark of interest inside me.

The last time I remember such apathy ahead of a new season was 2013-14 and that ended up being one of our greatest.

Let's hope so eh! We've still got a squad with some very good players. Can't say that I'm that interested at the moment though due to the likely prospect of dull tippy tappy nonsense.

Keeping Evans and Fofana fit for PL games.

playing literally the kids and our fringe squad in cup competitions- sorry, unpopular but highest PL finish is priority this season.

Seeing team sheets put out that look like (if these players stay:

Kasper

Riccy Fofana Evans Justin

Ndidi

Madders Youri KDH Barnes

Vardy

Even with Madders on the right/inside right with Ricky P overlapping, that’s a quality side.

Just winning a game, so we can go 3 days without some hysterical knob saying we're getting relegated.

It's possibly going to be our greatest ever player's last season before he starts to decline. We need to appreciate him while we've got the chance to watch him score goals regularly live

We'll probably go through the motions of a mid table team.

8 match unbeaten streaks thinking we can challenge europe.

8 match winless streaks thinking we're doomed for relegation.

I feel it’s fairly likely to be the final season Jamie and Kaspar are at the club. So let’s enjoy it, appreciate everything they have done and hopefully one more season of brilliant performances.

I think no europe means we can probably get away with taking the cups semi seriously, maybe a mix of first / second string / youth players for the early rounds if playing lower league teams.

No European football for a change. Less games, and more intense football. I’ve got a feeling this is going to be a good season. The media will play us down due to the lack of activity, but there’s a tight group here and a lot of talent. I’m looking forward to the “pundits” scratching their heads when we thrash Arsenal (Man City reserves).

"Unwhelmed"? "Minimally whelmed"? "Inadquately whelmed"? :dunno:

Apparently the verb "whelm" does exist, but has passed out of usage. Apparently, it's from old English, meaning "engulf", "submerge", "well up" etc.

I've learned something today....

Agree with your sentiment. I certainly don't feel like coming on all Private Frazer and turning into one of those panicking headless chickens that @Webbo rightly disparages.....

But a spark is required for some enthusiasm. As we all know, "you can't start a fire without a spark".....how about a song?

I've just seen the second half of the match at Hull. Even with no signings whatsoever - it is a pretty exciting prospect to see that team (maybe Youri or Praet instead of Albrighton, and a place for a fully fit, fully focused Ndidi) playing against Premier league sides. If the football is progressive and if Maddison continues to be brilliant we can match anyone (well, anyone but Man City and Liverpool) in the league. My worries are that we will (as we have done for 50 years) wet ourselves when we play London teams, or we'll revert to conceding from corners cos our keeper is scared to leave his line.

But could be exciting times!

I'm just looking forward to kickoff against Brentford and having on-field matters to moan about instead.

Open letters anyone?

I just want to see effort, attacking football with goals galore for us. I want to see us better defend set pieces without conceding so often from them.

Would also be great to win the league cup/carabao cup. It's something.

Top 6 would be amazing but pipe dream.
