We need someone who can organise a defence. We've gone almost 4 seasons conceding 2 goals pretty much every week. Appointing Martin was the epitome of stupidity as his teams can't defend. It's like KP doubled down on what we're shit at. It's inexplicable

Russell Martin squads can’t defend for shit. His Southampton squad broke several defensive records, including most errors leading to a goal.

Decent players trying to play in a way contrary to their footballing instincts become tentative and slower to react. They will instinctively know that the tactics they have been told to employ aren’t working and become conflicted on and off the ball, overthinking everything and being slow off the mark - delayed responses, conservative decision making, errors of judgment. A good manager allows the individual players to play as close to their instincts as possible, and employs tactical formations that make the best use of their strengths and mitigate individual weakness. A bad manager inflexibly sticks to their plan and tries to force the players to adhere to it no matter what. And you lose. Repeatedly. When this happens, either the manager changes or you change the manager.

Adrian Durham hinted not long before the end of the game that the news was Brussel was in serious danger of getting the sack if we lost today. 

 

I mean, we all know that should be the case, but to hear it from AD gave me hope that the grapevine is accurate.
