I get the sentiment but it is quite a bit different comparing a 27 year old to players who were 31 and 32

Russell Martin actually mentioned Cullen on the BBC RL podcast when talking strikers, classed him as a mixture of 9, wing and 8. 
 

He also said that he wants his wingers to offer different things, sometimes with the ability to operate inside the pitch.

 

That’s what I thoroughly expect to see from Cullen, a striker who can also be used as a winger who comes inside.

 

If you want someone to blame for this signing, then it’s surely down to Russell, do we sign Cullen if Russell Martin wasn’t our manager? I doubt it.

For context that's less than people like Aluko & Golding. Not saying we'll get him for only £4k pw as imagine we'll be offering a bit more to get him down to L1 but it's hardly gonna be breaking the bank

Can't add anything of value as far as his ability goes as I can't recall ever seeing him play however, there DOES seem to be a plan in terms of style of play. Cullen/Chaplin as false 9 type players who can play with or instead of each other and possibly Adebayo and maybe Otchere when an outright no.9 is needed with one of the previous two behind them. 

 

I think the 8's will be Page, Braybrooke, Neale and likely an experienced signing to come.

I don't think age is the difference here. The qualities and characteristics we were told we were benefitting from those two, likewise Coady and Winks and they've all been an utter abomination.

 

Cullen might be the victim in all of this but it's once again an absolute nonsense piece of business and unnecessary. If we genuinely have £2-3m to spend for a striker and have gone down this route is absolutely wild. We're close to extinction.

Firstly, Russy absolutely adores Cullen. Worships the ground he walks on. We had Morgan Whittaker at the club at the same time at one point and Martin unfailingly selected LC. One way or another, you're probably going to see a lot of him whilst Martin is in charge.

The bad? (And bear in mind that this is based on watching him in The Championship) He's got no pace. Can't beat a man. His physical presence is basically zero. But, and it's a big but...

I can't deny that the lad has a knack for scoring important goals. Even during the anonymous periods that I mentioned above you could never rule out him appearing out of nowhere on the end of a move, to smack home a rebound, or boot one in from further out that put us in front or nicked a draw. It's one of the main reasons why a lot of our supporters never lost faith in him despite the mountain of evidence to the contrary, and why I can honestly say that I wouldn't be surprised if he gets you 15+ goals this season in L1. I wouldn't expect it to happen, but it might.

I think I was reacting more to the “everyone crying” comment than Cullen himself. The purpose of my post was more to defend those who are wary about these types of signings than to have a go at the player himself.

Educated guess, he's a senior 1sttesm player there who's signed a few long term deals. Their average yearly budget is £15-20m (more when performance bonuses are added). If 20 1st team players were on £15k a week that abput covers it. So I can almost certainly say he's on far more than £4k and if he's not then his agent is dog shit.
