I’m getting so bored of the negativity towards absolutely everything. 
 

This in isolation is not a signing to be mad at for the position we find ourselves in. Be angry/frustrated that we are here, absolutely. I know I am. But this signing is certainly not comparable with Ayew/Reid etc and I don’t think one we should be losing our heads over.

 

Let’s get behind him if he comes.

He'll probably be alright, nothing to shout home about either way. Doesn't excite me, but we haven't done that for a while.

 

If the fee isn't horrible, nor his wages stupid this isn't dreadful. Sooner the season starts the better.

Why isn't it? It's similar. A window we badly need a striker, have limited funds and already have a similar experienced player signed (Chaplin is this years Reid)

I was very positive until this story broke.

 

Thought we had learnt some valuable lessons now I'm not as sure.

It’s like buying a Vauxhall Astra when you’ve already got a Mondeo but you really need a 4x4.

Squad composition has been a huge problem and we’re just not learning - if we hadn’t signed Chaplin, I’d be up for this signing. Instead it’s another Skipp, Soumare, Winks situation but up the pitch instead.

 

Mavadidi is our only pacey wide option and he’s been shit for about 80% of his time here now. Our strikers are Opoku + assorted 18/19 year olds. We can’t afford to build a poorly balanced squad and actually spending the tiny bit of money we can on him is a gross misallocation of our resources.

I’m hoping for another pacey winger to come in 🤞🏻 I agree with you we need alternative options to stretch the pitch especially with the amount of low blocks we’ll be up against

What is it in particular about this that makes you so negative? Consistently played at a higher level, managers & players all seem to adore him as a character. OK granted Swansea fans are saying he's not particularly good, but what do you expect us to get in L1? We don't seem to have the ability to find a Mahrez-esque steal from other leagues now and are in desperate need of some individuals who change the culture positively so as long as he doesn't cost more than a couple million it feels like a reasonably sensible signing (albeit hardly inspiring)

I get your point Ric. I'll be honest, don't know a lot about him, but I just think buying a player like this is more than just the technical ability/numbers. 

 

It's about the characters in the squad when the chips are down. We saw last season what happens when you have technically decent players with the wrong character. A goal goes against you and they collapse like a house of cards. 

 

I'm more encouraged by this signing. Don't think he's another Ayew/BDCR as from what little I've read he seems to be a grafter who doesn't give up. Even if his contributions this season are limited to goals out of nowhere to snatch a win or a point as alluded to by the Swansea fan earlier, they are massive contributions when you're on a run. Literally the difference between coming out of a tough game feeling 10 feet tall because you got away with one and managed to keep your run going, versus being brought back down to earth with a bang which then impacts confidence going into the next game. 

 

I know signing him and Chaplin seems odd and somewhat concerning given the adundance of youth we have, but I just think there will be games, especially at this level, when you need that extra little bit of nous to get you over the line. 

 

For me the fact that Martin has worked with him before, knows his character, but more importantly trusts him, is what gives me a bit more reassurance over some of the cloggers we've signed during the past few seasons.

Mate, there’s a lot of context needed. Firstly, do we know if he’s been signed as a striker? Do we know our exact budget? Are we getting another striker in? Do we know the plan for Chaplin? Do we know what other outgoings are lined up? The truth is we don’t know yet.

 

I’m not saying it’s a good signing, I’m also not saying it’s a bad one. It might work out, it might not. We’re signing a 27 year-old player who is likely to be on modest wages from the league above, not a 30-something journeyman on £60k a week.

All fair enough, but as i've said we've not spent a penny in 18 months. Are no longer than a year away from fina coal ruin, spending in excess of £200k a week in interest on loans and now up for sale. Whatever plans we have, I question them as I don't trust a single one of them. I'm yet to see anything James McCarron is doing thay suggest there's a big improvement either. Where's his vast experience in Belgium or tapping in to City Group's network in value for money markets like Australia and Japan etc?

 

Seems to me it's been, we all love Brussell since 2023, go along with that and then as Martyn Glover is stuck on solitaire can you just ket Marti  have a few former players please.
