I'm not moaning about someone actually playing over others anyway, but if we're paying money for someone then there's likely other options available

🤞🏻 I’d love us to bring in some exciting youngsters from ‘lesser leagues’

I remember being so excited when we signed Knockaert because I’d never heard of him! 😆

Unfortunately we haven’t done that for a number of years 🙄

Correct, there’s a tough balance between youth sales and also getting enough results to get back to the championship

If we play 8-9 academy lads that aren’t ready and finish 12th, we’re done.

The likes of Chaplin, Cullen, Adebayo should help us get results, maybe to the detriment of certain youth players ( Evans and Carr are the two that spring to mind for me) but at this moment in time we don’t know if they’re good enough there’s no evidence, with Cullen there is

Cullen got 8 in 41 games under Russell at Swansea.

Just think he's a poor signing in a long line of poor signings.

Everyone that’s crying about his age and resale value etc etc.

We already have good youth prospects, we don’t need more youth prospects. That will actually block our youth players from progressing. We need good senior pros with the right attitude around the squad to set a good example to said youth players and help with their development.

If what RM is saying it true and he believes that the players he has signed are a good example for the dressing room then I don’t see what the issue is.

You don’t want players blocking our youth teams path to the first team but you want us to sign some of the best youth talents in the world, and you also believe that we can get these superstar youth players at a cut price but don’t want us to sell our superstar youth players at a cut price.

Far too similar to Chaplin, agree with @coolhandfox this is Ayew and Reid all

Over again, plus we still actually have f ucking BDR.

We’re going to come up against a lot of deep defences, we need some pace and 1v1 ability AND a physical forward - instead we’re collecting too many players with overlapping profiles.

A proper nine is what we need.

Show further weak thinking at DOF level, we should have enough brains to say sorry Martin this signing doesn't fit our approach.

Another manager dictating signings.

In the league above,

Context is also key, in 2022/23 he came back from a loan from Lincoln and scored 8 in 21 for Martin

I’m not willing to write him off, he doesn’t excite me but I can see him slotting into RM system as the 9 or a wide midfielder across the season

With no pace or physicality.

He better be one hell of a finisher.

According to Swansea fans he's a grafter that at least will make a nicer change up top after last season.

Not really the big nasty striker I was hoping we'd have leading the line.

Same crap people said about Nacho, Daka and Ayew when we came down form the PL both times!

From what I heard, the Swansea dressing room are

gutted to see him go so you would at least hope he’s a good honest professional. I don’t know much about him, And with the current state of the squad (which obviously could be very different in a week) it does seem a bit of a strange one.

41 appearances

19 starts

1,649 minutes - 18.3 90s

8 goals and 2 assists

Goal contribution every 183 mins in the Championship under Russell

But Okoli will be fine in League One...

Reading the comments on the BBC story, the majority of Swansea fans seem to be sad to see him go. What is encouraging is they speak highly of both his character and work ethic. Think he'll be a good addition at this level. May end up being a squad player if we go up, but in terms of what RM is trying to achieve this season, instilling the right attitudes within the group and having players who will run all day long it seems a sensible signing. After the half arsed performances we've seen over the past few seasons, I'll take an 'Average Joe' who puts a shift in, all day long.

I think the problem is that every single piece of evidence we have over the last 5 years suggests that rather than set a good example to the younger players these “more experienced” players we are signing will just take their place in the team, stink out the place and leave us in a worse position than we are already in. We have hit rock bottom, this is literally the best chance we have had to just start again, look to the future and focus on young players. I hope he does well but I can certainly understand why people are less than excited.

I think we will see 3 or 4 loan signings from championship clubs who haven't started the season in the first team come the end of August.

Not sure if Cullen is worth going for now, or waiting to see what we can pick up.

It's not. It's a carbon copy of the summer of 2024. Signing Jordan Ayew instead of an out and out striker and then playing him in positions that need to deliver goals and has never done so consistently.

Cullen is a jack of all trades player. Got no pace, no ohysicality, not creative but hard working. A type of player you want one or two in the squad which we already have in Reid and Chaplin who are similar profiles.

Given finance are tight this is so unnecessary. He's not coming here on a pay cut either, 2 years left on his deal and plays regularly. Very similar to Ayew in that regard too.

I despair.

Don't disagree but also supposedly only on £4k pw at Swansea so not exactly a costly signing. If it brings a good attitude and role model for the youngsters as well as a half-decent player then think it has the potential to be a decent signing. All that said, he shouldn't start ahead of Page...

It's shit like this that makes my head fall off. We are a football club as close to going bust as we ever have been. We haven't paid for a transfer fee for 18 months and are spending £200k a week in interest on loans alone.

No other club at this level will spend £2-3m on a player with very little upscale. We need to be developing youth as well as making clever low value signings that we can increase their value to protect ourselves.

We've had to raise circa £40m this summer just to keep the wolf from the door, we won't do that next summer. If we pissed the league and badly need to raise funds, you're not longer getting £15-20m for a player in League One. We'd get £5-6m max and that's why we are on a prescipice and why some of us can't believe we're signing a non entity type forward when we already have two aged 29 and 33 on wages far greater than we ought to be paying.

Cullen has 2 years left on his deal and is a first team regular, he's not coming here on a pay cut.

Bit different here I think... Cullen actually has decent references as a person whereas don't think anyone had a positive thing to say about Ayew when he joined
