Why? Because the team held its shape and his positional sense was vastly improved.

Hes got all the physical attributes..that's not his weakness. But if he develops the mental side of the game, maintaining his concentration, being positionally aware, and tracking runs, he'll be ok and we'll be better off.

Everything I asked of him before kick off he gave us tonight!

 

For the first time I saw some really good offensive passing instead of just safe 10-15 yard passing. The way he gives a short pass with authority and precision makes you think he has more to give and he showed some really nice use of the ball tonight. His energy and pace was sensational being in both boxes. His header in our own peno box late on, sliding tackles in the middle of the park, backing up down the wing! Amazing all round energy. I also liked the way he was there for the second ball and showed real aggression at times. Also, something that NK never did, he gives us height in midfield and one a few aerial duels. We all know we at times can play a spot of hoofball and someone to battle for the ball aerially in central positions is so important. On a side issue thats what Slimani gives us in Oka`s absence.

 

It was the perfect game for him and a real confidence booster. Again, he is not the finished article but if he grows into the position, his role and his team mates get confidence that they can now see a serious player then once again we can save 30m come January. I hope he can string a few positive performances together now so he gets that belief.

He was much improved this evening and deserves most plaudits he will get for the game, but he still ball watches too much rather read the game with awareness of opponents' movements. He is young and hopefully with growing confidence, that will get better.

Another positive game to go with a few others. Lots of potential and lots still to learn. People seem to give him less slack than a lot of other 21 year olds we've had.

This isn't the first game he has shown promise in. Great against Swansea and very composed and linked really well with Drinky at Burnley. He's 21 and relatively new to the starting line-up and isn't Ngolo Kante. Kid needs a break and tonight hopefully he's got it.

Thought he was excellent tonight, all over the pitch, some good distribution, kept composed too.

If he finds the consistency, whilst improving his game, he could be pretty darn good!.

I think we have to protect him a bit, in the very toughest of games, but we have a half decent PL player there. It has been a baptism of fire for him, really, but he is only going to get better from here.

Good showing tonight. Think MOTM is being generous as for me yet again Drinky ran the show. But tonight he made some good forward passes with one in the second half to Slimani (I think) being incredibly classy. 

 

With experience and confidence this guy could become a beast. Inconsistent but given that performance in the Champions League, he looks like value for money.

Settling in now and showing more confidence. I noticed players are more willing to give him the Ball. He even got back to save Morgan a few times.

If we get a quality midfielder in January he'll will look even better.

This lad is so hit and miss it's unreal. But at 21 you can forgive him for that, and he is worth persisting with.

 

EDIT: Sounds like I'm criticising him there. He was excellent tonight.

Was quite all over and knew what to do. But sometimes hesitates to tackle when it's fine to do so.

its clear he has bags of potential... And he's finding his feet and progressing

 

the new bit today is that he was so much more progressive and not afraid to take on the more risky pass...

The other thing people seem to forget is that kante took also took time to gel into the team, took him about 5-10 games before he became tge incredible player he was last season. Not saying amartey will develop to play at the same level this season, but hell fire, give a 21 year old lad the chance to gel
