Wymsey Posted 4 June 2018 Posted 4 June 2018 I'm struggling to understand why Everton believe that they're a big/huge club from reading some of their sources with regards to latest news on Marko Silva interviews, and before that? Thought last season was, despite their decent finish after a poor start, quite embarrassing for them - throwing a big amount of money (Klassen, for example, seems the biggest waste of money) in a bid to achieve a European place but faul8mg and sacking off Shakespeare, Walsh etc. They have a decent, loyal fanbase, yes, but that doesn't necessarily mean that they are a powerful club that they believe to be and have rarely achieved anything for years. I see Newcastle, for example, as a bigger club in some aspects.

I see Newcastle, for example, as a bigger club in some aspects. They have a very big fanbase and are well followed everywhere they go and haven't been relegated since the early 50's. A top flight regular. But on the other hand they haven't won anything since the mid 90s (I think I'm right saying the last trophy the won was the FA Cup in '95). I hate all the "big club" nonsence but Newcastle are not bigger than Everton. Everton have won much more than Newcastle, the latter of which has also been relegated twice in the last decade.

Bags of potential, just needs to chip in with more goals.

Max Wall Posted 4 June 2018 Posted 4 June 2018 Just now, Suzie the Fox said: Fwiw i think Afobe is a great signing. I would be super happy to see him in a LCFC shirt. Just now, Ian Nacho said: Would prefer to see Musa's brother Mother. Corrected for you.
The Bear Posted 4 June 2018 Posted 4 June 2018 Rumours that we're punting Afobe on immediately to Stoke for up to £16m. An odd one, and you'd assume Afobe has agreed to it all, but I suppose it pays for a couple of players wages for a season. Reports a €40m bid gone in for Cancelo and in talks. Uncle Jorge needs to work his magic. Unreal signing if we pull it off.
CloudFox Posted 4 June 2018 Posted 4 June 2018 The Afobe situation makes me sad, but I guess if everyone is happy with the deal then oh well. Andre Silva is a decent prospect - no idea how he'd get on against PL defenders week in, week out, but with the right platform I'd expect him to shine. I'm very curious to see how Marco Silva fares at Everton. See if he lives up to the hype (which I have bought into, tbf).
ScouseFox Posted 4 June 2018 Posted 4 June 2018 i’m half done with footy when wolves are spending 40 mill on players i’ve literally never heard of and are trying to spend similar amounts on forwards with worse attacking stats than robert huth. cba.
Ian Nacho Posted 4 June 2018 Posted 4 June 2018 The Wolves hierarchy have probably read this thread and decided to bin him off
MC Prussian Posted 4 June 2018 Posted 4 June 2018 How many more Portuguese players can you be interested in? Next thing you know, Wolves are linked with signing Cristiano Ronaldo.

Look mate, in the last 10 years, which fans have had the better ride? Teams rhat haven't been relegated are boring. You can't beat a promotion season. The away days are unforgettable. (I still remember vividly the journey home on the train from Portsmouth in 1971) Everton are a borong team with no ambition, except to stay on the gravy train. I was 56 and cried at Stoke, 10 years on (apart pfrom a desperately needed FA Cup win) its been an incredible ride - I would say better than any team in the world. Because so many of our new fans haven't experienced the incredoble disappointments associated with supporting the boys in blue, they can't take any set backs, without finding a scapegoat. Anyway, Everton have a decent long term history, but there is no comparison in the last 20 years, which basically represents a generation. We have won five key trophies to their none - basically Everton are a club with no real ambition. They have developed a losing mentality and are very much second fiddle to the red half of their city. Dont really know why I have typed this? Apologiesjust back from the pub!!

Well for starters at least all of Jorge Mendes's client list. https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/gestifute/beraterfirma/berater/413 Oh look, Ronaldo!
les-tah Posted 5 June 2018 Posted 5 June 2018 Everton will never win the premier league, probably a fact.
Ted Maul Posted 5 June 2018 Posted 5 June 2018 Is Cancelo the one who missed out on the Portugal squad for Pereira?

But that's probably paper talk to force Valencia into bidding for him.

Do you not worry that you're basically just signing a lot of unproven, over hyped players for astronomical fees so Mendez can cash in? You must surely appreciate he doesn't actually give two ****s about Wolves, right? 30-40m for Cancelo is ludicrous really, Mendez will take an incredible percentage of that.
lancyclaret Posted 5 June 2018 Posted 5 June 2018 Do Wolves realise they can only have 17 Portugeezers in their 25-man squad? Also, their wage bill - by all accounts - can be no higher than £67 million this season. Only Huddersfield's, Burnley's and, I think, Brighton's was less than £70 million last season. Difficult to sign players already on big wages. They'd struggle to pay many at £50/60k-a-week - not that much by PL standards. It would be a fine effort if Wolves manage to make the top 10 with one of the smallest wage bills.

Still plenty of headroom before we get to the £67m cap. Portugeezers - We currently have 4. Any we sign will add to that but it's not like there are loads compared to other nantionalities. Yet... As for Mendes, Wolves are now his biggest cash-cow, and is good friends and is in bed with the owners. He'll make plenty of money sure, but he won't be shafting us over.

He's getting all his pals into Wolves on massive agent fees with massive wages and you can't see how he's not using you for money? I'm not saying that it's a particularly bad thing. There are a lot of good players on his books But he is undoubtedly shafting your owner for every penny of his worth.
Guest MattP Posted 5 June 2018 Posted 5 June 2018 What is happening at Wolves is one of the strangest things that has happened in English football for some time, it's not as bad as the club who were bought by the firm that never existed but it's close, but as soon as President Xi realises currency manipulation can only go so far and the trouble free way of moving out Chinese capital at the minute doesn't hurt his economy he'll end it. Chinese investment into European football could collapse overnight if he decides this isn't working and one day he will, the end game has always been to make China a football superpower, soon as he knows this isn't the way to do it you'll see the money very quickly repatriated. It's guaranteed to end in tears eventually for Wolves, as do all fairytales promised by things that don't actually exist, but they'll have some good times along the way. I suppose it beats watching Rob Taylor up front - even if you are now a toy of the Chinese government and a wealthy Portuguese agent rather than a football club.

FFS open your eyes, you are signing players well above their value and he's trousering the extra cash, that's the definition of shafting someone over, you are just cool with it at the minute as you are winning.
