He'll be absolutely fine given time, Amartey and Mendy have looked fine given time and a run in the team. This lad has shown lots of potential, another 6 months to a year down the line he'll be a diamond.

Can't wait to be reminded of this when he's loaned out to Leuven in the summer.

I agree with this, but some managers and fans expect players to be more adaptable and effective before this timeframe though.

It's because of transfer fees involved. A player who is signed for larger transfer fee will often get criticised more than a player who was transfereed for much less.

I like him but I prefer amartey at RB and I prefer Ghezall or Albrighton as RW. I feel he NEEDS to be a good RWB in order to stay in the starting 11.

He isn't weak, just caught square-on and on his heels. He needs to sort out positioning..

i agree with you, he isnt weak at all, needs to work on defending, since he was a winger and has been converted into a RB, so hes still learning and should improve

This guy shouldn't be anywhere near his own penalty box in any circumstance.

The 3rd is a carbon copy as well.

Great going forward but absolute liability defensively. I’m one of the people begging us to try 352 but that wouldn’t have helped here; he’s in the right position for a RWB but just switched/switches off all the time.

I do wonder whether Simpson would have been more aware/vocal than Amartey towards the end. That said, weve got a young team and they’re only going to learn one way. Just wish it was happening sooner.

Don't get this. Look where everyone is. All over the show. Should have been Amartey's man not Ricardo's.

Our back line I could not quite figure out, with Maguire and Chilwell going forward, the CMs slotting back (or not), and guys moving left or right within it.  So I saw these partly as failures of a unit not fully drilled to understand their responsibilities.  We were attempting a formation new to them.

I would like to see us persist with wingbacks, including Ricardo, despite today's breakdowns, which were magnified by Ozil's quality and Aubameyang's speed.  I think his pure pace (and a third CB) should make up for some mistakes, if we can just solidify a unit.  Start the same (three) CBs every week to blend experience (Evans), solidity (Maguire) and pace (Soyuncu).  Spread the learning curve across the unit; perhaps it will be less painful than Ricardo's lessons at FB?

He is just not an effective right back, not in the Prem and as a wing back he has issues with his defending but at the same time he is not a winger.

I think all of our defensive play revolves around trying to constantly keep the ball so we cant be hurt but our passing can be awful when under pressure and then we fall apart.

I’ve said it time and time again. Amartey is naturally a CB. CB is his only good position. He naturally wants to venture inside when the team is having to defend, especially when we are deep.

This picture is of a defence that hasn’t a clue what it’s doing.

The defense is a mess and has been for the last two years.  We need to employ a specialist Defensive Coach to sort this out. We also need to inform Celtic now that Benkovic is going to be recalled on January 1.    The signing of Evans (who is marginally quicker than Wes), is just another recruitment conundrum.  I fear Harry will have had enough of this come December.

One of the positives of last night was that the Arse's defense is probably worse than ours!
