Yes players haven’t been available but why haven’t we tried it, we’ve had the midfielders available and would of been no harm playing an under 23 striker in vardys role in his absence. Not a chance, Puel would have been getting everyone used to that system if we were, it would be stupid to suddenly switch.

I think putting any wingers in that we currently have ultimately weakens our team to be honest. Would also explain why Puel was playing Gray down the middle in pre season. 1
TrentFox Posted 8 August 2018 Posted 8 August 2018 Three of our summer signings - Ward, Benkovic and Soyouncu - have almost come out of nowhere. They suddenly appeared on FT only a day or two before completion. We’re gettig better at keeping things quiet?? 2

No offence Rachid. It gets Iheanacho and Vardy in the team together. Plays to Ricardo and Chilwell's strengths. Maguire absolutely excels in a 3, as well as Soyuncu by the sounds of it. Obviously Puel hasn't played this formation at all in pre-season, but he's had no Vardy or Maguire and perhaps he finally sees this as an option to get the most out of certain players. I personally think it would be our best formation and a system that gets our best players out on the pitch. Would rather go down the southgate route, have only 1 midfielder sitting and push Silva further foward to support the front 2 with Maddison. Agree with you though that it make the best out of what we have but we'll still line up 4-2-3-1

norfolkfox222 Posted 8 August 2018 Posted 8 August 2018 3 - 5 - 2 wingbacks Best option for us now, and imo very exciting. COYB 1
Vardinio'sCat Posted 8 August 2018 Posted 8 August 2018 For me, Morgan, Benny and Maguire have only this season left at LCFC, with 2 of those not really in contention for starts. Given that Evans is also somewhat injury prone, I think 3 at the back is not a given, even if we get both of these. This Turkish guy looks like he could play a few different positions as well. 2

Not got the pace of Chilwell but got an awesome delivery. Perhaps why Elder has featured heavily in pre-season too. I actually think it's most likely we won't be switching to a 3 a the back, I just strongly believe it is our best formation with the players we have.

Just me that thinks Chilwell has been working on his deliveries? He put in some wicked balls in preseason. Looks to be our left-sided free kick taker now as well. 2

Agreed, signing a 22 and 20 year old they will both need time adjusting to the premier league. Maguire Morgan Evans can help them settle down and be ready for week in week out next season.
LCFC_Oak Posted 8 August 2018 Posted 8 August 2018 We can't see them train, so you never know, but I do agree it would be strange not to have trialled it at least once. But countering that, Puel hasn't had the players available who would like start the season in that system. Perhaps playing Ricardo further forward was an attempt to develop his forward play as a wingback, and likewise playing Chilwell left back was aimed to help develop him defensively as a wingback (which we all know he needs), his forward play is reasonably good. 1

No. But last season I think he was drilling home the point Wes and Simpson can not play in Puel's desired formation. And in the pre season we've not had the centre halfs to try it. But regarding potential wing backs, his faith in Chilwell is well known, and he has played Richardo in an advanced position. I hope it's true anyway. We know he wants a solid defence, and can get that going given the players. But with Chilwell, Richardo, Maddison and Iheanacho playing well we might have a solid attack.
