Some people are never happy. We have some of the brightest young players in the league in our squad, two of whom are now given the chance to play in the Senior England side. Both still have work to do but they’ve started this campaign strongly, Chilwell in particular. Let’s just be proud and back them on Tuesday night if they get in the pitch. 3 players in the England squad with potentially Maddison to move up to the seniors as well. Bloody brilliant :scarf::englandsmile4wf:

Times a million...

it takes skill,forethought,class,intelect....and football knowledge to be an happy-clapper,  to be a moaning old grumpy, just takes

Misery guts...

Gray lol bloody hell.

Didn't even occur to me at first but that's hilarious from the FA, few thousand tix left to sell let's go all out. Just need the Maddison and dramatic Simpson call ups tomorrow to top it off.

Are you quoting Kyle from South Park?

So, you’re saying they’ve not been called up on merit.

I've only seen people slating the top end tickets? Not sure there's any hypocrisy in that?

If they buy them then surely there is?

:( some people seriously! When I read that they were called up I was only proud! 3 Leicester players in an England squad! How far have we come from league 1 days! I think their performances from the under 21s probably had a lot to do with it also. Moaners will always moan! I'm just a proud citeh fan!

Aye and I don't doubt but I'm not really sure that's the best way to pick for the national team.

Whats the point in the U21s then?

Well yeah, if you're actually shelling out for the top end ones you deserve all you get.

Which is the exact reason why I’m not going. Even £35 for a friendly for me is just ridiculous.

I don't think Gray is necessarily deserving of a call up just yet, but there's not much competition. Southgate has always promoted from the under 21s if he needs extra players.

Chilwell is next in line for left back, only other option would be recall Ryan Bertrand but again Southgate would always prefer to promote from the under 21s.

I'd be surprised if either of them get any game time.

I don’t think anyone can argue with Chilwell’s inclusion - he is next in line so it’s no surprise he’s in there due to Shaw’s injury.

I have to admit I’m a little surprised about Gray, happy obviously, but surprised. He’s done ok for the u21’s, but has been bang average for us even at the start of this season. I half expected Maddison to get a call-up instead but hopefully Demarai can use this as a springboard to take him to the next level that he’s been threatening to do for a while now.

Oh, and all this talk about it being to boost ticket sales is bollocks, our 3 boys were probably the best 3 players in the u21’s the other night.

The criteria for ' deserving ' an England call up, it's changed. Southgate changed it up under his reign and we got a semi final out of it. A lot of these players being called up have also tasted success in the youth teams, getting to finals and winning them. Obviously they have to excel at first team level in the PL but it's not simply about being the most in form player at club level or being the biggest name any more. We tried that for years and we all were fed up of the lack of success, passion and identity. Whatever's happening now is an improvement for the nation.

Gray has been superb for the U21's for ages now, he has started the season well for us without too much fanfare. He tends to play anywhere across the front 3 for the U21's so playing in Southgate's 3-4-2-1 or whatever it is won't be that alien for him.

Chilwell was a no brainer, Bertrand and Young are probably his only competition on the fringes and both have been seen already so giving him a try is obvious. Southgate also loved him under his U21 tenure so it's as deserved as you'll get.

Go light it up boys.

Just not too much as we don't wanna lose them just yet :sweating:

Greatly deserved and its great to see younger players get the chance they deserve to play in the seniors. Gone are the years of getting in due to being a big name. Club status is starting to reduce in the bias but still someway to go.

Firstly don't let's fool ourselves, we only got to the semi final because of the extreme kindness of the draw, not because of anything that Southgate, the FA or the myth of a new system did. Belgium, Croatia and a brand new Spanish side have blown that false prophecy away.

Secondly whilst I agree with you that playing the biggest names at a club spectacularly didn't ever work, we definitely never did play our most in-form players for years that's the point, on the the contrary, we sacrificed those at the time in-form players for those aforesaid bigger names from bigger clubs. We then also had the habit of managing to play them out of their best positions anyway in to cram them in rather than picking an actual 'team'. Hence Scholes that famous left winger!

Have we learned from these past mistakes? There's much to aplaud about Southgate 's revolution in a way, developing youth being one of them and the togetherness in the squad that has been created but, some of the same old flaws are still there. At the World Cup did we really need to take both Henderson and Dyer? Both are quite samey the latter off the back of a very poor end to the season as well, so hardly on merit. Both men are part of the revoluionary mantra though. Yet we left behind Shelvey who just happens to have that something we could have done with but, he doesn't fit the mould of the revolution or come from Liverpool or Spurs. Likewise our own Vardy. How inconvenient for Southgate that a 30 something with guile and experience, yet again, for the third year running, managed to bang 20 Premiership goals in despite not playing for a Man City. If Southgate hadn't included him in the squad the press would have crucified him ... but he didn't give him any game time to speak of did he. Instead he chose to play Sterling out of his last seasons successful role with similar tippy tappy players like Ali and Lingard in the same team all at the same time. Lingard played well and I felt sorry for Sterling at times All good players in their own right, but not altogether in a team. Now, against Spain, Southgate seemingly partnered Rashford and Kane in a two. Was he that narrow minded or predudiced to see that Vardy and Kane could have complimented each other at the World Cup or did it just not sit nicely in the FA's cosy little inbred plot?

We won a penalty shootout for a start, the mentality of England changed in an instant.

Vardy, sadly was up against our chosen captain who bludgeoned 5 goals in the opening 2 games against dross and was always going to be picked. Vardy also picked up an untimely injury vs Colombia which effectively hampered any further meaningful contribution. I do think Vardy is under valued by a lot of people in the game but we are even seeing at our own club that if you don't set up as a counter attacking side then he'll be a passenger at times. He's up against Kane who scores 30-40 a season and is the poster boy of England, and as you've said the biggest annoyance was the reluctance to see if they could both play together with a Maddison or Shelvey type player in behind feeding them.
